All aboard the atheist bus

/me salutes

there was a thread? I missed it.
Been busy...writing a book, believe it or not. (Been working on it for a couple of months now. Currently 370 pages into it.)

Will you be doing a Homemark(?) ad to promote it? :p

Given that its an epic saga basically about a horny demon, up from Hell, chasing a Princess in a future radioactive world -
I don't think SA TV would be too interested in advertising it :P

But my agent in LA loves the film script version I wrote of it, and has pushed me to write a 'novel' version of it -
in hopes that Hollywood grabs it, once its published.
Who knows. Watch this space :)

Sadly I can't track down that thread - a month or two back in Off Topic.

You'd better stop writing soon. 120 pages is about the max most people here can read LOL!

I hope to see it in print.

re hoping to see it in print. Me too. If I ever finish the damn thing, and it gets grabbed by a publishing house, I'll come out of the closet here and post links to it. Had one book published before, but it was non-fiction - this one is a lot more total insanity and fun. Kind of stoned Terry Pratchett meets Steven King...
Oh what the hell, I'm having fun writing it :)

We care about ourselves and Humanity, and we think that this is the best way.

What do you think is the best way? To not believe in a God? That's fine - you have free will. But why have a go at another person's beliefs?

If you have issues about religion and the institutions of religion, that's fine too. Have a go. Rant on all you want about religious nutjobs. I'll even join you. But you can't claim to care about humanity if you attack what most of humanity believes in.

This goes against the entire point of being an atheist.
Its not about forcing your opinion or will on someone else. You can't have a leader of the atheist movement. That makes as much sense as a anarchist club.

So I ask... why is the money not rather used for some beneficial purpose instead of generating controversy and trying to convince people who do not want to be convinced?

Spreading truth and rationality are beneficial.

Anyway, they can spend their money however they want, it's not government money, why are you so worried about this if you are sure the people "don't want to be convinced" anyway?

My problem with the modern Western spread of secularism is that rationality is mostly not taking the place of religion --- people's (natural) instinctive need to be shepherded is instead being fulfilled by an increasing tendency to merely have bigger government act as their "replacement" shepherd instead. In other words, they are indeed turning away from the Church for answers in life, but instead of turning towards rationality and reason, they are simply just screaming "government should (this)" and "government should (that)" every time something makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. This gives government a kind of blank cheque to keep raising taxes and expanding and creating endlessly more pointless bureaucratic positions and ridiculous regulatory mazes. The role of the priest is supplanted by the role of the bureaucrat.

Huh? How are they "forcing" opinions on anyone? If I merely state my view, have I "forced" it on you? Surely the audience would have to be incredibly weak-willed for that to be the case. I don't know about you, but I can actually hear and listen to somebody's opinion without automatically being converted to believing it. When did mere words become "force"?

Atheism is a position of disbelief of God, it says absolutely nothing about whether or not you "may" try convince others to believe the same, nor is there even position for doctrine like that, nor any other "point" to it. If anything, I imagine atheists would be more inclined towards a viewpoint based on freedom of speech, in which you most certainly are allowed to try convince anyone of anything.

I love this! Atheists are using the exact same arguments that Believers use when Atheists confront them. How does it feel to be on the other side, Atheists? :D

Feel the hypocrisy! :D

LOL - and the Believers will pray for them. What are they going to do in return?

This is true no matter how you look at it.

So sad

A lot of Atheists have been creating their own cult like religion lately. Guess it's not fun believeing in "nothing" alone.

Haha, ignorance is bliss. Your imaginary friend doesn't exist, whether you believe in him or not. I don't feel any more alone than you do, and have more of my time and money to myself :) Score! Also, I don't talk to myself before going to bed.
