All things Shelly

What's happening with Shelly locally?

It seems most of their stuff is not on Takealot anymore. Some rare online stores have but ETAs are like 3-4 weeks. The Shelly1 is almost impossible to find. Which is a pity because its so good.

I'm bringing the rest i need in from Amazon now.
Yes, the local distributor no longer sells them. I recently got a few 1 and 1PM's from aliexpress, but yes, the waiting time is 2 months then.

Snippet on 9 Aug 2023 from [email protected]:
... our product manager has mentioned that the Shelly 1 has become end of life and we sold out on what was left the replacement is the Shelly Plus 1 the price is ...
That’s the Shelly 1 that I mentioned earlier

Not Shelly the brand :) Unless I misunderstood.

But yea I thought it was silly to discontinue the Shelly 1 actually and force a purchase of a more expensive unit

Yes, I meant the Shelly 1 is no longer available locally. Not Shelly the brand!

Oh I thought you meant the brand too lol

In that case I should prob check the plus price here and stock availability before Amazon as i still have to pay the vat and DHL etc..

Does anyone know if I can use the Shelly Plus 2PM with a bell press/momentary switch? I don't need dimming so I don't need the Shelly Dimmer 2, just want to know if the relay will activate with a momentary switch?

Essentially I'm trying to smartify my lighting but have these requirements:

- Lights must still work like a regular switch.
- I don't want a lever switch that can be in different physical positions but different on/off states.
- I must be able to find the same switch type / cover plate 5 years from now.
- Can't be too expensive.

Yeah, you can. I had this configured in my house before switching over to Sonoff TX Ultimates. I used these: Bell Press Light Switch. It’s a momentary switch that toggles the Shelly.

Just curious. A random google suggests the pricing is near as makes no difference the same. Why not use the Dimmer2 ? No neutral being a bonus

The Shelly dimmer only has one output, I can use them in some places but other places have two gang switches so will rather stick to the 1PM and 2PM.

Realised I don't really need power monitoring for my lights
Yep, definitely not necessary for me either but Shelly only make the Plus 1 without power monitoring it looks like and it's not any cheaper than the one with PM, so may as well just use it.

You mean the external switch (input) is a momentary switch? In other words, a button.

Yes, the Shelly 2PM supports button & switch inputs. Here is an exert from the manual:

  • Button - every button press toggles the state of the device output.
  • Switch - the position of the switch corresponds to the state of the device output.
