All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

The only downside with this setup is that when there is bad weather you are charging your batteries from grid every night and then discharging them again in the morning. This uses extra energy for the conversions and adds extra cycles on your batteries.

I prefer to keep the battery charge higher in this case. So use grid power until loadshedding and then use the batteries. But this requires more fiddling so there is always a compromise.
The cycles thing doesn't bother me, since it's a complete discharge and charge that counts as a cycle. Energy that isn't being used doesn't count towards the cycle, and it will be charged by pv anyway in the morning.

For me it's about trying to make sure there's enough capacity to last through the night. Especially since extended outages have become more frequent...

I have two 5kWh Sunsynk inverters in parallel. I have 3 rackmount batteries with communications setup (brand not important). If I want to connect a 4th DIY bank with e.g. a JK BMS to it, how would I set it up. Should I
- just go without communication rely on Sunsynk to estimate state of charge and the batteries BMS to manage themselves
- Get a smart shunt and somehow connect that to the inverter
- Use SolarAssistant to manage and report battery SOC. And here is the question, can I attach different types of batteries to SolarAssistant. I know you can have multiple of the same battery if you have them all hooked up via USB, but what if they are not all the same type of BMS

Lots of Sunsynk battery issues on the support forum in case anyone is thinking of buying. I'd stick with pylons, FW, hubble or others.

I’ve already purchased would like to know what to look out for.
 
Ah ok. What kind of issues are presenting?
Mine seems fine but haven’t cycled them much since it is only a back up system until the panels are installed.
Hopefully they remain fine or the warranty is worth the paper it is written on.
 
Guys, I'm a total noob at this although my knowledge is theoretical and dabbled in smaller solar projects. On my deye display, I can clearly see the array input, grid input and battery input. The house seems to be stagnant.

When on DC power, load shows as expected but the excess power "should" be flowing back to my main db/house though to reduce my draw on the grid. Also the inverter grid only shows what its drawing, not the home. Do I have misconceptions? I would think the display would show the excess power flowing to the home?

Can you describe your setup a bit more?
Based on your numbers there's only 100w unaccounted for which could be the inverter power draw.
Do you have ct coil setup correctly?

The chaps are back here busy with it and I raised it with them. The 100w is what I understand as the floating value that the inverter uses to monitor the phase ( could be wrong) but my question would be, shouldn't that excess 1.18 be showing as flowing to the house?

Dc/load all work as intended.
 
Assume your batteries are at 50% and the next slot on the inverter is set to 80%. If you don't select grid charge it can only charge if there is more solar than your load. It will not use any power from batteries until you are above 80%.

If you do have grid charge selected when you go into the next slot, it will immediately start charging from AC and solar if available.

Same rules apply during loadshedding. While there is grid power you will never go below the set %. Without grid it will go down to shutdown value. Grid charge only toggles if you want the batteries to be charged via AC or not when power comes back on.

So to add to this - I tried last night, batteries were set to 100% with grid charge unselected from 5pm to 8pm... during this time we were grid connected - the batteries weren't used - but Eskom was.

So basically - it'll only use the batteries when grid is available and the batteries SOC is above the setting on the system work mode,.

Negative value on the battery means it's charging. I know the sunsynk interface better than Deye so could be wrong.
 
Setup is:

1 x 5kva deye hybrid
10 x 460 panels ( 2 x 5 hooked in )
2 x 100ah Hubble AM2

There is a CT on the main db board. I heard the gent taking pains to explain to the one sparkie about direction and flow through that but If I understand, the inverter feed is not on that so there should be flow to balance of the db POST the CT. CT is configured to prevent flow back to muni I believe.

The negative value on the battery means its charging - not sure why the home is showing no usage.

I think the negative is indicating the differance between the batteries trickle and the panels, so it's what should be available to the home. Batteries are supposedly at 100%.
 
No - it should stop shortly after it reaches 100%
Had a look now while they busy, they array is producing 2.2kw and the negative on the battery is showing 2.05/2.1 so it looks like a little draw to keep the battery charged and the balance is the available. They still need to finish up some config on the inverter so maybe it's just a display setting or I'm wrong about the inverter showing the power flowing back.

Usually your solar array only creates power when there is a load ie battery charging, ups load, etc
You only know how much solar power is available when the mppt tries to power loads.
You won't see an array availability with no load

There should be load in theory as the geyser runs of db and the load plug circuits run fridges etc but that's why I would assume there would be a out arrow indicator to the home, unless that only shows in the case of the actual inverter taking load ie off battery with no grid and no excess solar.
