On the "system 2" tab - can you explain what your settings here do please?
I am telling the inverter that I don't want it to export to the grid, nor to the CT.
And prioritising the servicing of loads vs charging battery.
Also that I don't want / need a grid trickle feed at all, my prepaid meter does not trip.
And finally the inverter's power that I wish to use.

So your settings don't allow excess PV to be used to power non-essentials?

You don't want to use grid, so you want those figures as low as you'll accept - in my case I leave them at 25% and ONLY tweak them if I know there's a substation or big loadshedding cycle (and I want my batteries to be full just in case (tm)).

It'll charge from the grid if it is below the required SoC and grid charge is selected

I've seen somewhere in the settings there's a 20(KW?) selected as trickle charge. What's this ? I do have a pre-paid meter. It's never tripped before, what will make it trip ?

It'll always charge from PV (assuming you're producing more than you're using). It'll only use grid if below required SoC and grid is selected.

okay amazing - yeah with this much load shedding, rather be safe and have batteries at a little higher than normal.

Also, in our area, the power often fails to come back after load shedding

Sometimes the inverter might send back small amounts of power to the grid. Some prepaid meters trip when this happens and so there's an option to always draw a small amount of power from the grid. If your meter doesn't have issues you can set this very low (or even 0).

Interesting. There's that CT coil or something installed so zero should go back ?

If you've got the kettle on as a non essential it's using about 2kW. Then suddenly it turns off but the inverter is still supplying power for it and takes a short moment to adjust causing it to send some power to the grid.

My DB isn't split in essential / non-essential. Everything is essential :ROFL: I installed timers on the geysers. Kettle is in the bin. Boil water on the gas stove.

Don't bin it.
I use electrical in the day (when there's sun and it's free).

So I have electric kettle / stove for day.
Gas kettle + gas stove for night.

Why pay for gas when you don't need to ;)

I have an old analog meter so I feed into the grid.

I have no loadshedding and this works for me
 
My suggestion is to set it to what you feel ideal but then closely monitor and tweak as necessary under different conditions. What I set mine to after the install is very different to now after having Stage 6 with two 4 Hours slots with no sunshine or just having bad weather for a full day.
I dont have enough storage and find it hard to strike a balance between always having power and optimally using the battery at night.
