But my homeassistant has constant connection and is tracking all stats so the connection to my wifi network is not a issue and I can browse the page of the dongle fine. So unlikely it's a local internet issue as my home network is fully online and fine. It's not a huge concern as HA is nicer for me , just it's odd.

Does the inverter have ita own wifi or does it leverage the dongle?

It uses the dongle for WiFi. I've just checked and my Solarman is fine. I hardly ever use Solarman though as everything I need is in my main HA dashboard.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the same just it seems odd, I mean my HA is powered by the solarman dongle via lan, so if it can connect and keep going, there isnt a lan issue and my internet is fine otherwise. It's like it can't find a route.

Solarman does updates every now and then and I also lost connectivity yesterday, but it came back eventually.

It's seems a bit spotty to be honest.

Side question, is it possible to access Solarman via a webpage and not always via the app?

Why not just use WiFi? I didn't even realise the dongle had a LAN port.

as @Speedster posted, there is a global but its the exact same as the app data wise etc. HA with solarman integration is better as its updated per minute and you don't suffer with what looks like cloud issues to me.

You also don't even need any credentials or anything to read from the dongle. It just needs the IP.
 
What is the average temp of your inverter? Mine seems a tad high, coming in at 45-52c, depending on usage and charging. 8 kw Sunsynk. I see operating is between -40 - 60c.
Maybe the garage needs some cooling :laugh:
 
Can someone do a dummies version of what the difference is between solarman and solar-assistant? Based on the bits and snatches I've picked up from this thread it seems you can use one or the other but probably not both?

Solarman works on the existing WiFi dongle.
Solar assistant (SA) runs on a raspberry/orange pi and connects to the inverter via cable.
Solarman has no extra cost.
SA is a couple of thousand.
Solarman updates every minute (to Home Assistant), or every 5 minutes to the cloud.
SA updates nearly instantly.
Solarman is mostly read only. SA allows for changes to be pushed to the inverter.

You can use both at the same time. The one connects on the outside of the inverter and the other can connect to the internal LAN port inside the inverter.

Ok, so you can, but from the sounds of it if you have solar assistant you may not want to bother with solar man?

So far - SA is definetly worth it - much more accurate, things like my battery used to drop 5-8% when reporting from Solarman - its stablle with SA.

Your installer will most probably use solarman to make remote config changes if needed? At least that's what the installer told my parents with their Deye.

I have the Sunsynk dongle running alongside solar assistant on mine. My installer doesn't have access to solar assistant, and it's not useful for him either, but he gave me access to the Sunsynk dongle in read-only mode.
I got solar assistant as I'm a software developer and I like to tinker. It's a hobby. I plan on making some dashboards (not in home assistant) and solar assistant would be easier to do that with.

Solar assistant is also near real time, so I can log in quickly at night before bed to make sure I didn't forget anything on, based on the near realtime power usage at that point.

Unless you want to tinker, just get solarman, set and forget. If you want to tinker, solar assistant will be better.
