Are there any local wifi alternatives to AlwaysOn?

I often find that the connection is either very slow or I cannot connect in coffee shops, airports and malls.

The other problem is that I can no longer buy a data bundle with I can use for extended periods of time. You now have 30 days to use the data or you have to buy minutes. You pay the same whether you are downloaded large files or reading an article on line. Does not work for me.

I do travel in SA but do not need AlwaysOn overseas. I can of course just use 3G/LTE, but the data is expensive.

Telkom (and Cell C used to) have longer timeframe data bundles. That and a MiFi is probably the best.
