Long story short. My dad and bro live together. I've always had a key to their house. I could stroll in and out when I like any time. My bro meets girl. Engaged within a few months and living together within a year. My dad still stays there as it his his house too. When my bro can afford a place of his own he will buy his own place and not share with my dad.

They plan a holiday with my dad. I get invited. I decline to go on the holiday in favour of looking after their dog, parrots and home. Since I would not want to leave the pets in the care of anybody else. Bear in mind that this is not just my bro's place it is my dads too of which I have a key. I dont stay there though. I have always been made to feel super welcome there until recently. The past few months I have not really been visiting a lot like I use to because I just dont feel as welcome anymore. My dad has always said I am welcome anytime i can even bring my friends over any time and have a braai, this is in general not just over the time im looking after their place. I had no intentions of inviting anybody over out of respect though.

Everybody who knows me knows that I am very responsible. In fact probably too responsible for my age. This is a fact and like I said everybody knows it by my actions.

I live 2 complexes down from my bro and dad. So we basically neighbours it will take me 1 minute to walk there! 10 seconds to drive. They tell me nothing about giving a key to my bro's soon to be mother in law. I get told that fiancé said she is going to lock her and my bro's room. Ok I feel im being treated like a bit of a criminal now but over look it. I really have no intentions of going into their room. Maybe she does that and therefore feels the need to lock her room. I certainly dont. I overhear fiancé telling somebody tonight that that her mother will pop in and out all the time while they are away for the week. Now they are leaving early tomorrow morning. So this is last contact before leaving for holiday. Still no mention to me that mother in law was given keys and plans to pop in and out. They leave and say nothing.

So my moer meter hits the roof. Getting mother in law to surprise check up on me? I look after my pets dearly. I love animals. I have my own maid of which I pay for and supervise so coming to watch the maid for a few hours is not an issue. I am very capable of looking after the house. I have done so on my own for years already. My dad and bro knows this. I am 22 and have worked my butt out to pay for my own studies which cost more than 250K so far. Trust me I know the meaning of responsibility.

Fiancé is in her mid twenties and doesn't work. Brother pays for everything. She is a real poppy. Anyways that has nothing to do with the story and is none of my business but it gives you a picture.

I gave my bro a piece of my mind tonight after they left and I had time to think through this. I mean Im his brother. Does he not have balls to stand up to his fiancé and say there is no need for your mother to check up on my brother. I always look after my mothers place on my own when she goes overseas since I was a 16 already. I even am looking after my dad and bro's business affairs while they are away.

Coming from somewhere where I have been told that its my second home etc I feel like I have been treated like a criminal, stranger or irresponsible teenager.

They are making excuses now that they left the key with mother in law just in case. If I didn't know mother in law had the key in the first place what help is that anyway? Also if that were the case they would have told me about this and it would not have been something that I happened to overhear from another room. Also If this were the case she wouldn't have said my mother is going to pop in and out the house. That is a totally different story to she has the keys just in case. Lastly if I were in the house and under the impression that I should be the only one there and I saw somebody coming into the house I would have cr@pped myself thinking it was a criminal.

Should I be pissed off? Im really disappointed my brother approves of fiancé getting her mother to check up on me.

Considering the circumstances and history... Am I over reacting?

Reality of marriage in the family are mother-in-laws. Don't fight it. Your story has been and will continue to be experienced by generations of men.

Sucks but move on 'cause its going to get even worse when your boet gets married.

Stand up for yourself. Have it out. Above all, don't just roll over and play the delinquent teen. They will understand. Lock your own room and all the other doors when you are out. That will teach her.

whats over reacting my brother beat the crap out of me and my girlfriend, i mean fiance for new years.

my appologies just venting inlaws can blur family love very quickly you have to have a heart to heart with your bro b4 the situation gets out of hand.

This is your first post? A mainly-tech forum and your very first post is on relationships?

I dunno, maybe mr_anonymous is a member here and chose to be anonymous in this thread:whistle:. It does seem a bit odd though:confused:

Sister-in-law is an over-dramatic, prima donna cow locking doors and getting the mother-in-law to check up on you. His mother-in-law should be his problem not yours. So you didn't overreact.

Your brother must man up and stand up to that shrew.

have a chat with your dad and bro. Those are the only people you need to explain yours self to anyway. Be sure to take a mature approach, i.e no name calling. Maintain emotional control and tell them how this affects you. remember if you push your brother to choose, you're going to lose everytime. she's sleeping with him, you arent.

+1

Sad, but true.

The only way to resolve this, unfortunately, is through conflict, although you should try keep it as toned down as possible.

IMO, it's not going to work to "just leave it and get on with life". He IS your brother, and you will resent both him and yourself.

Do your best to get through the time they're away, and then when they're back, bring it up in an upfront way with them. It's the best way.

Damn, what a disappointment.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was a continuation of Mephisto_Helix's "Was I overreacting?" devil's threeway thread. :D

Yes I am a current member of MyBB and I know some members in person. So I rather chose to post this as anon.
