Am I over reacting here?

Over-reaction of note!
(yippee EMO thread without loss of lover!)

You claimed to be very responsible for your age. Well done. Fact is, you are not mature - despite your belief that responsibility = maturity. It doesn't. In maturity, we do not act all responsible and clever and upstanding. Rather, we begin to realise, accept and partake in social interactions with people based on many understandings, one of which is that your family (the one you grew up in) becomes secondary to your new family (the one you raise your own children in). Responsibility does not make you the boss or even the only person that can be relied upon. Myself, I am incredibly irresponsible. And for good reason: people who think that responsibility somehow makes them a better person need to be grounded by the likes of myself and the MIL. We are not deliberately pissing on your parade. Rather, your parade is detouring past the streets where we piss. And because we are irresponsible, these are not territorial markings but rather where the need grabs.

Let it go. Such a small battle for an even smaller prize. Keep the key. Have a cuppa with the MIL if she pops round. Remember, chicks dig their private stuff and that her locking it all away causes ire sounds like fair justification to do so. I can just imagine the discourse: "We must lock our bedroom when we go away. Your bro' is so responsible it borders on the creepy. I do not want anyone going through my stuff. Last thing I want is that little freak wearing my panties just to make sure they are not too revealing and irresponsible..."

Guys the issue is not her locking the room. That is her space and I respect that. It's giving the HOUSE key to the MIL to come and do spot checks without telling me. ...and saying her mother will be popping in and out all the time behind my back to someone else.

Apparently they also did not tell my dad about this because they knew he would have flipped. Of which he did when he found out.

This is where I think the problem is:
They are not even married. She should have never moved into the house in the first place. They should have waited for my bro to have his own place. Now she comes in and makes the place her own when in fact it is actually my dads as well.

I do have my own life and that is why I am giving the key back. Like I said I dont really visit that much anymore because of the vibes with fiancé.

Okay, remember my point: responsibility != maturity. All we have here is your interpretation, which by your own language is subject: Apparently they...

The thing is this: what exactly was reported to you and by whom? From your first sentence there, someone told you that they asked to MIL to check up on you behind your back. To me, that is very subjective and interpretative language. It holds no fact and in court would be called here-say. Go only on the facts. And do not return the key in some form of spite. It is a slap in the face to your father. In fact, if things really are as messed up as you would have us believe, your dad is not exactly going to be having the time of his life either and your support (rather than spite) would be valued.

Think about it without emotion...

Don't give the key back.

Do some stuff on purpose for the MIL to find and report back on. When she does make a big joke if it. You'll win points and maybe help everyone get along better.

Maybe use some food dye to dye one of the animals a different color. It's harmless and will wash out.

Watch out for these two women. They'll both move in and kick your father out of his house. Your brother won't do anything about it since she opens them legs for him.

Your brother doesn't sound like the brightest of okes. How could he move in with someone in your father's house? These women are probably coning against you and your father. I feel sorry for your father though because they might decide to get rid of him - whatever it takes. This is a real threat.

Talk to your father , don't involve your brother because he'll tell his two favorite women about it.

Not the first person to say those EXACT words. A few friends and family have said the same. Scary!! I really hope this is not the case.

Only you can stop this. I wouldn't care where the two women hated me - even my brother. Your bother is stupid. Sorry to say this.

You shouldn't marry if you can't afford financially.

Don't let it go. If it was your brother's house, it would be none of your business. But the house is not his. As I said, talk to your father.

And if it is the case, throwing back the keys is leaving your father in the lurch. Then what I said above: he needs your support and the returning keys won't do it - it will have the opposite impact.

wtf is up with people these days, getting married and not being able to afford their own place!? :wtf:

If you cant afford to have your own place then you shouldnt be gettin married

ffs

I would have thought that ability to afford housing would be the last reason for or against marriage...

Call me a die-hard romantic (my wife thinks I am the least romantic person alive) for defending marriage. Getting married is a choice and not quickly dismissed as stupid. For many, it is a rite of passage in so far as religious or cultural dictates. Hell, even our esteemed president loves getting married. A lot.
