Amazon already challenging Takealot

Take a Lot is Toast burning.

They failed to capitalise on the first mover advantage.

Just like how Telkom failed to take advantage of Asymmetrical interconnect rates. Too late to cry now that its gone.

One Beautiful thing about South African CEOs is they never listen to the customer.

Where i work i have a direct facility for the customers to talk to us. We need your input. Most important business tool.
A satisfied a happy and satisfied customer is a customer you should squeeze for more money.

I still don't get it though. What's the fuss about?

Hasn't Amazon been shipping to SA since forever?
The real reason for this article

Temu website is far superior to Takealot, you can add to your order after you have paid for it for about 5 hours. You can remove items after you have paid. Tracking is brilliant on Temu. I took a chance and bought clothing, perfect sizes and descent quality and far cheaper than local.

How do you see the customs fees before purchasing the item.

I bought something the other day, only a few days later did I have to pay the import taxes which added 25% to the cost.

Amazon calculates it up front if you're shipping to SA.

From my experience (and it might be the size of things I'm buying) but Temu is around R90.

The shipping was free when I ordered. I bought something for R50 with free delivery. 2 days later I had to pay another R25.

So that is Customs figures of course, and Temu doesn't really "know" about them. Buffalo Express pays that figure to Customs.

I'm not quite convinced. Walmart had all of the buying power which was a local concern actually. They only needed to leverage that. Looks more like they didn't understand retail.

It was pretty clear they didn’t understand South African retail when they brought in all their self-service tills at every store and only then realised they’ll need cashiers for every single one.

And now you have this weird setup where you and the cashier are standing on the same side working together to process your goods and nobody is seemingly willing to admit this was utterly stupid to implement.

Takealot used to be a lot better with their deliveries, they outgrew their shoes and didn't adapt / scale delivery operations alongside this growth.
That and also their range of products and quality control is what made me move to Amazon for majority of what I buy.
That was an expensive excersize - 'but vote with your wallet' is not just savings in many cases

Apparently Amazon pays their drivers shocking wages to get such good delivery times.

That won't work in SA because of minimum wage.

they had almost 30 years to learn from Bezos that he was building a logistics company and not just online shopping website. It was even written in the bezos books such everything store, amazong unbound and a few other books. That being said, it is easier to speak about these things than doing. So well done for takelot at least trying. Hoping they figure something genius out and make a win-win decision for consumers and their profits.
