Amazon ZA are shipping most of their smaller items in padded plastic bags rather than cardboard boxes

All were surprisingly in perfect condition (thought a box would be better for books)

I'm going to give a -5 points for packaging. One thing takealot wins on. My Asterix soft cover books from takealot were package in a box.

The amazon books came in a plastic bag which bent and damaged the corners of some of the books.

So 5/10 for packaging.

Nah, Im not sending it back so they can just send in same packaging again. I'll just accept it and move on. But yeah, not impressed with how they packaged it. I will maybe just send them an email to consider putting soft cover books (or any kind of book!) in better packaging, JUST LIKE TAKEALOT. Bonus if I send them a photo of the Takealot Packaging.

Yes please let us know about the "next day delivery" with Amazon. Interesting to see if they actually follow through.

Amazon and TAL both lived up to their promises.

Amazon delivered the next day, TAL today (as promised). Amazon surprised me by delivering 1/2 of a second order a day early, putting it in the box with the first order. The rest of the 2nd order arrived today (as scheduled).

The last thing I ordered from Takealot was a new monitor and I waited 5 days for the delivery which is ridiculous

Not just for frugal folks. The cables are excellent.

Is there a BEE stake in the local offering? The slightly downtrodden nature of the catalogue (Volkano tat, shitty books, no high end electronics) doesn't feel like the Amazon I'm used to.

They ramp up as time goes. Been the way they have done it in all countries they expanded into.
As for BEE, unsure they have been in SA for 2 decades with AWS. So should be well acquainted with local requirements.

Order still hasn't shipped. Decided to contact their customer support and they said:

I certainly understand your concern, and having looked into your order I can comfortably confirm that it is in it's advanced shipping stage.

Please rest assured that you will be receiving it as communicated.

Not sure what advanced shipping stage even means, but I highly doubt that I'm getting anything by Monday.

Edit: Was informed that 'advanced shipping stage' means that the order will ship soon and another agent said that I should definitely be receiving the order on Monday. Will be impressed if they pull that off.
