1. She wasn't alone in her protest and didn't "lose New York" anything, she saved New York $3bn that was going to be given to Amazon as an incentive.
2. Amazon still moved into New York, but without the $billions in incentives just months later.
The company had cancelled plans for a headquarters in Queens 10 months ago, after backlash from residents and politicians

1.
They were going to get a tax break IF and only IF a whole bunch of conditions were met that would have brought in a lot more than $3bn of wealth to New York. There is plenty of information about it,
Proponents of the project, including Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, say for every $1 Amazon receives in incentives, the city and state will receive $9 in return.
"The total state and city revenue that will be produced is estimated at $27.5 billion," said Cuomo at the November news conference announcing the deal. "The revenue-to-incentive ratio is 9-to-1 – that is the highest rate of return for an economic incentive program that the state has ever offered."
Nothing about the tax break was unusual
The three largest incentives Amazon is getting from New York come from three as-of-right (that is, incentives available to any company that meets the requirements) programs: the
Excelsior Jobs Credit Tax Program, the
Relocation and Expansion Assistance Program (REAP) and the
Industrial and Commercial Abatement Program (ICAP). The latter two tax breaks are incentives established by the state government that affect the city tax rolls, while the former program affects state tax rolls.
The whole HQ2 pushback by AOC was exactly like the pushback they are receiving here. There were a small group of unions who wanted more money and Amazon said no. So they lobbied and roped in politicians to create a hoora combined with misinformation.
Some of those unions had mob backgrounds. So AOC literally colluded with mobsters to strong arm Amazon.
All in all, Amazon backed out because of the political landscape, not because they weren't going to get the deal. As stated above, those tax breaks were a given, because ANY company gets them that brings the given amount of revenue into the state. What was the problem here was that there were unions using politicians to strong arm companies for contracts. Amazon wanted fair tenders to go out, these unions wanted the contracts defacto. When they heard they weren't guaranteed those contracts they lobbied and paid politicians like AOC.
That is how lobbying in the US works, you should educate yourself more.
2. No they didn't, 2nd HQ is in Virginia now with a lot of growth there now whereas New York is not. There are no divisions that will be expanding there unless they absolutely need a footprint there. That is company directive driven from the top.
And since Amazon is into bribery and corruption why don't they try to pay off those seeking to block the construction
Really, point out some sources that they are into bribery and corruption?
If anything situations like HQ2 show the opposite. If Amazon agreed to union contracts that gave them exclusivity regardless of whether they were the cheapest, best, etc., they wouldn't have had any pushback. When they didn't agree to that and instead insisted on fair and open contracts, suddenly they were the devil.
The company warehouse staff situation used to be bad, no doubt about it, but there has never been to my knowledge corruption or bribes. And furthermore, Amazon recently fired the guy who was the head of the retail division. The guy who was known as "the sniper" for firing people by siting on catwalks and looking for slackers. He was the CEO of their retail segment and was replaced. Just about every single Amazon employee that has had something bad about them in the press that is anti employee has been fired or replaced (ie. someone hired above them in such a way that they resign) in the last 2 years.
So I would say they are doing a pretty good job of cleaning up in terms of employee relations.
I work in this part of the tech sector, so I keep a VERY close eye on all these employers and their dirty "secrets".
Frankly Amazon seems to be absolutely trending in the right direction.
