It just changes US flat pins to euro round pins - the power brick is already 110/220v.
R20 is overpriced, should be R10 for what all it does.

Also saw this looks amazing ! but to big again if you just wanna read novels, The kindle is just the right size to hold in one hand and read.
Must agree with that - the 6" Kindle is just the right size. Even the DX feels too big for novels...

I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU to everyone on this forum for all the helpful info
All your tips and experiences serve as a valuable resource and I take comfort in knowing that should I run into any issues, I'm sure I'll find the answer here
I ordered my Kindle2 last night and it's currently in Cincinnati
After a full days worth of research and forum reading I had it down to either the Eslick or the Kindle, and once I realised that the Eslick only has 4 level grey-scale compared to the Kindles 16, the R500 price difference made the kindle the clear winner.
For the record though, I do think it's retarded that you can only order the 'official' Kindle cover from Amazon - NONE of the other accessories would go through to my address :wtf:

I couldn't resist - pre-ordered a DX !
The GF has a Kindle2, I have been playing with it but decided that the screen was too small for me.
I also want to put camera manuals, computer manuals, etc on the thing.

I would've gone with that option but it was just too damn pricey for me... maybe one day when I'm big

maybe once I've become properly acquainted with her, we'll trip the light fantastic, naked in the sunlight. But for our first encounters I prefer to leave a little something to the imagination

My Precious arrived this morning!
Not too shabby at all - i sat refreshing the tracking system on DHL's website every five minutes from Wednesday evening till it said it was dispatched to the delivery service this morning.
3 days to get it from Phoenix, Arizona to Cape Town. Then a day and a half to get it from Cpt International to my front door! :wtf:
Sadly I now have to wait till the weekend cos I promised my soon to be fiance that I wouldn't open it before my birthday :erm:
(normally my present is a big surprise, but this year I told her all I wanted was my Kindle, so this is like payback for choosing my own gift)

No, it is native - connect the thing to your PC and copy it to the "Documents" folder. It shows up on the Kindle's homescreen and you just open it.
So far it looks pretty good - was able to handle a 25 MB .NET dev book I loaded on it, and showed code, screenshots, tables etc. pretty well.
The only thing - there is not reflow. If you keep the kindle on portrait you can't really make out a A4's text. If you put it on landscape, it splits a page in two and you are able to view text sufficiently. If you are planning on using PDFs a lot, especially complex ones withs pics, maths, tables, code etc., I would get a DX. If you are going to use it occasionally, or just read PDF novels (which I would convert to MOBI format anycase), then get the 2.

OK, I received my DX on Friday, and it is great !
But just something peculiar - the 3G worked fine in Joburg on Friday, but I went to Umhlanga on Friday evening, until Sunday evening.
There was zero 3G reception in Umhlanga, as well as nothing at Durban Airport.
As soon as I arrived back in Joburg this evening it was fine again.
What is the problem in Durban with the Kindle ? My 3G dongle, as well as my phone (both Vodacom) worked fine.
BTW, my GF had her Kindle2 with her, and it did exactly the same as my Kindle DX.

Since my firmware upgrade on my Kindle 2 I have also been getting EDGE in places where my iPhone picks up 3G. Think that maybe it's one of the ways Amazon is trying to make the battery last longer on the Kindle? You can always try and force a 3G network if you want - go the home screen, then press the menu key and go to settings, now type 311
