I am able to buy that one. It seems to think that I am in the United Kingdom, not that I care.
Other books like "Shantaram" do not even show up, though I know it is available to US buyers.
I know you mentioned using vouchers for books, but do you know for a fact that it will reject my credit card when making "US" purchases because the billing address is South African?
Not sure if you guys have noticed - Kindle for PC (Beta) is finally available for download.

Not bad - can catch up by reading a few chapters at work without looking suspicious on my Kindle
Now just waiting for the Mac version![]()

thanks for that
Now I just need to figure out how to rip out the DRM so I can read it on my Sony Pocket Reader!
You might find this quite "enlightening". Think you will still need a Kindle linked to your account to actually download the Kindle file (.azw) to your computer.
I have tried it and it does work but there are a few "challenges". For example - I am reading "Eragon" on my Kindle at the moment - italics is used when Eragon and Saphira "talk" to each other. When I convert it with the above process and open the book in Stanza the italics formatting is discardedStill good to know that it is possible
If you using a Sony reader then why not just download from the Sony store?
P.S. I see you live in Durban North - I used to live there too. Actually finished school there![]()
ah, thanks for the link. You can download the .azw files using the new PC reader beta. But I'm not sure where to find the serial number in the PC reader yet. Havn't had a look yet.
The sony store does not seem to have as many books as amazon...
Ha ha - niceI love Amazon. I work with them as an associate, but I never liked the look of the Kindle, nor the fact that they weren't going international. I was overjoyed when Sony released their Pocket Edition Reader, it looked so elegant, and I liked the feature list, and the cheaper price. I imported one straight away! It's absolutely beautiful - I love it! I installed the software and then realised the ebook store only caters to the USA!! WOOPS! thank goodness I do business in the states and have a card issued by a US bank. And then it wasn't even two months and Amazon announced their international kindle!!!!!!!!!!!!! ****! always happens. Anyway I'm really happy with the Sony, but I still want access to the entire Amazon range. It never crossed my mind that a specific device might offer more books....
PS: the only thing I don't like about the Sony is that my sweaty fingers leave marks on the sexy brushed metal case! I'm forever polishing it haha
As you said, it won't be long before a guide appears![]()
I finally built up the courage to buy a Kindle Intl. for my fiancee.
I expect Amazon to throw it back in my face this afternoon though. I created my fiancee a new account and set her location to the USA (using a friend's address in New York). I then had it shipped to that friend (he'll bring it with next month), and paid with my South African card. Surprisingly, everything went through but I imagine when they wake up State-side, some "real person" will take one look at the transaction and cancel it. My card hasn't been billed yet.
Fingers crossed!
You guys certainly do things the hard way.
Just download pirated books and put it on your cellphone.
OR buy them through Mobipocket reader (for your cellphone) if you don't want to pirate the books.
The EASY way...
If you think that reading books on your cellphone is the "same thing", then you've missed the point of eBooks completely.
