AMD FX processors released

So now what? I Have been waiting for these to come out for a year now,I could of upgraded a whole year ago :(

Whats the best buying option for a gamer now? Stick with AMD or move to Intel?

Very sad indeed. At least my 7 months of waiting is over to know who will get my money. And if that is AMD's figures on Bulldozer they are gonna have a real tough time bringing something to the table against LGA 2011/x79...

Move to intel, but not now, wait for january.

I'm not entirely certain by these results... Some review sites had the AMD Bulldozer running with 1866MHz ram, which did perform better (legitreviews I think)... Also, I'm not convinced that anything can utilize what AMD has got running. I'll wait and see what happens, because I'm not really convinced as such. AMD didn't make a processor that have almost double the transistor count of the I7 2600K, without having it do something...

I think given time, better drivers, bios updates, newer motherboards... things might look different too...

Don't forget that Intel are still to release their Socket 2011 processors (next month apparently).

And early rumours report that:

According to a document with Intel's performance estimates of the Core i7-3960X processor (six cores, 3.30GHz, 15MB cache) seen by X-bit labs, the forthcoming chip for the LGA2011 platform is clearly - by up to 65% - faster than its predecessor Core i7-990X (six cores, 3.46GHz, 12MB cache) across a range of benchmarks despite of lower clock-speed amid the same amount of cores due to advantages of the Sandy Bridge micro-architecture over Nehalem/Westmere micro-architecture, quad-channel memory controller and other innovations.

The rough estimates of performance advantage of the Sandy Bridge E-series Core i7-3960X compared to the model Core i7-990X are the following:

+13% in Cinebench 1.5
+12% in POV-Ray 3.7
+36% in 3DMark 11 Physics Test
+15% in ProShow Gold 4.5
+34% in SPECint_rate base 2006
+65% in SPECfp_rate base 2006
+111% in Sandra 2011B/Multi-Media FP sub-test
+92% in Sandra 2011B/Memory Bandwidth FP sub-test

All the driver, BIOS and board updates can't compete with that :p

SIGH, no they are not LGA 2011 has been pushed back to January at least. Also, have you looked at its cost? Its going to be worse than LGA1366 imo. Good luck buying that for a gaming rig when SB will get you comparable performance.

Why?? Please dont let your answer be LGA2011, cause that is not aimed at the vast majority of gamers

Is that tri gate? It says it is for enthusiasts like the 2600k so perhaps i am wrong but it seems to me like it will be fine for most people who can afford a 2600k unless you have some other info i have missed and the price point they are looking at.

Anandtech reckons:

Expect CPU prices to start off at around the $294 level. Not bad why wouldn't most gamers want it? 37% performance increase is massive, less power, cooler. Sounds nice but it could be delayed until march

edit: I say this because just about everyone puts SB-E as mid-November.

Agreed you can't compare an FX to LGA 2011 in price. My point is if AMD's latest top offering is this far behind now then imagine how far behind it will be when the LGA 2011 is released :o

How is a $300 starting point not bad for gamers?????????????????

I clearly live in a completely different world, but $300 as a starting price on a CPU does not fall in the range of a typical gamer, and they cant even overclock until you reach $500

sorry but 300 dollars is about 3k perhaps 3.5k, not far off and we don't know the eventual pricing, amd has not helped by producing crap.

As i said we don't know everything but 300 dollars for a top end chip is fairly cheap compared to the 8-10k we have seen in the past. you will be amazed at how many gamers can afford top end shyte. Although with amd being so pathetic a 8-10k chip is possible i guess.

At the end of the day some people are paying 3.3k for a 2600k, am i wrong?

ag nee man

looks at his rare cpu... well atleast i can play bf3 and d3 on high without hickups:) (yes i got in thnx to some swedish friends on GW)

anyway my cpu is like 3 years old!

pretty dissapointed in the new socket range amd is coughing up, the AM+ series was the best series ever, ive been through 3 motherboards without having to upgrade my cpu.

come on amd, what i dont get is why they created a cpu without first testing it and comparing it, to check if they can improve on it before release, now they release some half arsed thing almost like black ops. what a slap in the face to a loyal amd follower. Another cpu range im skipping out on.

I'm laughing my ass off. I knew AMD will not be as good as Intel. They never where anything near intel. They just fails and thats a fact. I'm no fanboy cause the stats don't lie. Only AMD can lie like this as they told us that it's going to beat intel. What a bunch of idiots. Now with the new ivy bridge coming out Intel will win even further.
