I really hope that the 7900 XT and XTX will do well at review time. AMD has had some vague products launches in the past, but this launch was vaguer than Vega.

There is a question, do AMD need to compete with Nvidia? Well, they did, by dissing on them, but it is best to allow value to do the talking.

Intel has some catching up to do… and Nvidia better rethink their price strategy which I don’t believe will happen with this generation. It is also rumoured that Nvidia will use monolithic die with Blackwell. Until they can move on, which can take 3-5 years or more, they have some serious optimisations to do. AMD has a good chance to take the crown with their next generation.

I watched the stream and it was painful. I don't know how many times I had to hear about:

* Better performance per watt
* No special power connector
* Display port 2.1
* FSR2

There is the mindset of wanting all the info in 30s and then there is not wanting the main talking points repeated over and over again.

The event was a dull infomercial. The hardware might be something special, but we will only know for sure when we have more than extrapolations and best guesses based on the vague performance numbers we got.

I would largely agree...

Generally, from my take. The AMD card is likely a better value proposition at this point, but it will largely depend on just how close to its 1.5x-1.7x improvement number it can get in reality.

Tiktok is generally for those with short attention spans. Perhaps that form of media is more consumable for you. I am not taking a dig, its a reality for some.

I am aware of what tiktok is, but you are confusing a boring stream with a short attention span. It is possible to not enjoy something that is long - as I demonstrated by watching the whole stream.

Lol, @mr_norris is right, the presentation was pretty boring and soulless. The only time they really got the crowd's attention was when they announced the price, at the very end. AMD can be happy that they have tech reviewers, like Linus Tech Tips, who have made upbeat content on the launch, probably paid content, but that is how business works.

I don't need 200FPS+ Ultra, I just want 120 @ 4K @ High. I am talking rasterization.
Ray tracing - i'll take it or leave it this generation. It looks great, but IMO it disappears into the background when you are actually playing a game.

Local pricing is going to be key

Because that is how I perceived it and I do my best not to view presentations with bias. This was a product launch.

Engaged presentations are less so? Steve Jobs excelled at having captivated and intrigued audiences, and even that is argued otherwise by the anti-Apple crowd because Apple used "employees" in their audiences. This is what makes views like these impossible to bring up.

When Nvidia announced the 4090, they showcased what the product could do at its launch. They didn't have a live audience at Nvidia GDC, it was a virtual event, and it wasn’t like Jensen Huang was upbeat either in which he is usually with his keynotes, but the 4090 was delivered with the right energy, getting straight to point what the product can do at its price point.

They did make comparisons, by dissing on Nvidia. What they didn't do was show side-by-side benchmark charts, but the data they used is captured in note RX-842 which is in papers I don't see published, yet, at this time, hence it is unknown how they went about their testing methods, and it could be that they didn’t test the 4090 to make comparisons.

The note lists these titles,

- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare,
- God of War,
- Red Dead Redemption 2,
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,
- Resident Evil Village, and
- Doom Eternal.

and when you look at the 4090 reviewer benchmarks, the only comparative title in there is AC: Valhalla. Yes, AMD did show Cyberpunk 2077 bench results, but excluded its note. A gap now covered by the LTT video, which is still speculative.

Just pointing out some discrepancies, like the one pointed out by Gamers Nexus on 8K in the same manner they pointed out how Nvidia misrepresented 8K, but who will game at 8K anyway? This is all marketing, highlighting niches to persuading the wider public that this is the better product to buy.
 
Since coming from my GTX 1060 ROG to my 6700xt its night and day differance on perfaormance.

Only issues i had was some driver probs that have now been resolved finally with an update.

But yea id be down for a next gen for sure!
 
The above Gamers Nexus look into thermocouples, Steve's comment below the video,

We're actually super excited about this idea. AMD wasn't sure how much people would care about it, so let them know in the comments as they'll probably read them! We can do this stuff with thermocouples easily enough, but it's not really the same as just having hardware build the functionality to get case ambient straight into the hardware. If AMD exposes the right dials to users, you could get creative with case builds and noise optimization for high ambient environments. It's small, especially compared to a brand new multi-chiplet architecture, but it's the small details that count on this stuff!
