Amobia is Awesome!

Has anyone tried using VOIP over Amobia?

Well... Seeing that Amobia peers with Mweb, then VoIP provided by Mweb should actually be excellent pending on where the data is processed. Yah, VoIP is naturally good on Amobia, really, I know <- this again will depend on your link.

Yep, my wife was in the USA recently and we used Skype and Hangouts for voice and video without any problems.

You guys having good pings? no random spiking? it appears there is either something wrong on my antenna or the high-site (centurion) because i get random ping spikes almost all day. Jumps to 1500 for about 30-60sec as well as packet drops.

That could be an alignment issue. My local pings are less than 20ms. At some stage they upgraded my grid because I could not get full speed both ways (4mbps).

They have good service, support and nice symmetric speeds.

But there are few things to consider: as far I know from friend's experience, some services won't perform normally or not at all, like Tunngle (failed to connect 75% of time to lobby and never had proper chance to play on it), Hamachi (no direct connection, routing via node somewhere in EU) and DynDNS (it will complain about being behind NAT), likely due to P2P nature and ISP level NAT (no public IP). Not sure how it works right now, but it would be nice if someone tests above services on Amobia.

Hi Impulse_One,

I know that you can give them a call and ask them to add the service to your priority list. For instance, I played on a private wow server and my ping was over 6000... -.-

I gave Amobia a call asking whats up, and they said not all services are on their priority list and are still in the process of gathering information for them. They then grabbed some data as I log into the game (had to do this a couple of times.) After a 10 minute call with them they said give it about 24 hours and it should be fine.

Logged into the game the next day with a ping of 160. This is to a international server in the UK. Same thing happened when COD Ghosts came out, had to do the same thing.

Hope this helps.

VIVA AMOBIA!

Great. Ill be giving them a call now. Their site has not been updated in a while as they still offer a 384k line For R299.

Every time I chat to the support guys I get a half winded "we will look into it."

This morning I woke up and the connection was completely dead.
Again phoned them and was told that I would need someone to come here and look and they would contact me with details. 5min later there was a phone call and they managed to get it connected again, but then they just assumed all my previous problems were solved and they wanted to close the support calls.

Seriously thinking of asking for my money back and getting bitco rather.
