Amobia Reviews

HI all,

I will post my response as an amobia customer for a year and few months.

I was on a 5mb uncapped account which was dedicated to the flats where i use to live. The service was great had no complains, and when there were issues (which wasn't that much) it was fixed within the hour.

Now i live at a residential area and have a 3mb uncapped account.

Few pros and cons:

PROS:

-85% of the time I have full speeds, browsing is a breeze with streaming.
-Torrents during the night (off-peak) runs at full speeds. (~360Kbps)
-I have never been throttled...
-Most i data i have ever used in a month was 360GB with no throttling or warning emails of such.
-Sometimes deliver great service.
-Local pings: 50
-International pings: 180 - 200

CONS:

-They are billing me doubled since December, (I installed my internet in November) and this issue is still not resolved.
-Their accounts personel is not the smartest and I have been struggling with the above issue for a while (still on-going)
-When there are issues with my line and I phone in, 99% of the time the response I get is: "we will look into this for you and phone you back" - they never do...
-During the day torrents speeds never exceeds 10kbps.
-The connection would sometimes drop. (happened to me while in comp CS:GO match last night)

Overall, I like them more then any other ISP thus far. Even with the issues I am having with them.

I am cancelling mine at the end of the month.

Has taken 5 months of me fighting with them to get my connection right which as of last night is back to its old crappy self.
 
I have been with them a month and have been happy in general. Better than other companies I have dealt with especially telkom. But I have a fibre connection and the last 200m's is wifi, so I might have a different experience.

I would like to say that my account issue has now been restored, according to them. For the actual internet, they are not too bad at all
 
What equipment do Amobia put up? Is it yours at the end of the day or you just renting?
 
They use mikrotik and the equipment stays theirs. S if there is an issue they come and replace.
 
Have a few ubiquiti odds & ends. Thought i could setup test & see if its too my liking.
 
slightly off-topic...does anyone else have issues with certain websites not rendering correctly using Amobia? I just had this issue with LinkedIn across 3 different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE)...swapped over to my ADSL line and problem resolved. Youtube vids also been giving me hassles on Amobia occasionally.
 
Their dns server is not working properly (once again). Try using google's dns (8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4)
 
Are these guys good for online gaming? currently at wireless company called web4us which sounds very similar to amobia.i can't get a open nat for my xbox one. i get a moderate nat on my ps4 at least.
 
How long can amobia leave their stuff at my house before it becomes mine?
 
Never...they will always own it. Well that's my understanding.

Does anyone know what packages amobia offers lately and the costs involved? (uncapped) Their website is outdated to say the least. Any suggestions for alternatives in PE? (No telkom infrastructure where i live). I've heard of iGen, but for companies who runs ISPs, their websites are horrible.
 
R299 for 1mb sym, R499 for 2mb and R699 for 5mb if I recall. Installation is R999.

I wouldn't know.

I filled out their contact form twice last week and have yet to receive any acknowledgement, let alone an actual answer.

Since I don't have LOS for BitCo, Amobia has certainly lost a customer over here.

I'm going with WIRU.
 
here's my feedback after 4 months with Amobia, stay away. run in the other direction. I'm trying to get them kicked out of the estate I stay.

Everyone is on a congested connection. The people who complain is moved to the high priority list so that your traffic takes a higher priority above the other users. Instead of getting more bandwidth or changing the contention ratio's.

DNS server fail all the time. I'm running on google's DNS servers, had to buy a new wifi router, the one they provided is so cheap you can't set the DNS servers.

The support staff never phone you back. Only a few of the guys there actually care about the customer.

In general they are full of promises but don't deliver. Rather stay away from them. If you're in a estate/complex where they provide the connection/telephones start making plans to get them out.

I've requested a price list from then 3 times in April... to date, not a squeak.
