Whats with all the publicity this is getting on the news lately - who is paying for the advertising?

Seriously tho, it looks like democracy is finally coming home to roost for the ANC. Some are having real trouble coming to grips with it.
 
As I said in a previous thread, it looks like a circus. As Helen Zille said; "Conduct at the conference relects on SA's state of affairs".

"What will the world conclude about delegates who sing "Bring me my machinegun and that on the day of reconciliation".

What's even more scary is that in practice this is basically the election of the SA president. :eek:
 
Scary.. Sad. S#** African politics. Democracy? More like a democary ;) looks like a zoo to me. With the law of the strongest, loudest, most forceful that will decide our future. Sigh!

thats it comrade Terror, you see how your comrades behave at a 'conference' ... that, right there, is why the country's gov institutions are in such dissarray....
Now these are the people who are 'supposed to rule' :eek:
 
This conference IMO is a complete embarrassment to the ANC leadership. How can they actually call themselves qualified to govern when their annual conference is so chaotic that they are running days behind schedule (for a week long conference). Their delegates are singing and dancing, while nothing on policy seems to be addressed. They are telling the media, citizens and the world that everything is going fine when they are bowing down to the ANCYL over the method of electing their leadership. Honestly, I am very worried for SA after seeing and reading about this conference. I try to be optimistic about the country, and try not to criticize very much as I am a 'guest' here, but I am very worried looking at the horizon if this is what the daybreak looks like of the ANC/SA leadership. Get those back up plans in order folks, just in case. :(

Is it me or do the ANCYL have much more say and power that everyone thinks and what they themselves are letting on???
 
Well long as you can sing and dance now who cares about tomorrow. I said it many times, RSA politics is not about policy, leadership or skill.
 
Is there any person who can define democracy to the understanding and acceptance of everyone? what pussle me is that most of the comments refer to any thing that they dont agree with, as a flow to democracy. it is also suprising that pre 94' no one talk of democracy and suddenly after 94' SA is full of expects on democracy. We currently have two opposing groups in the same organisation and already sceptics see this as a down fall to democracy and the country. we have countries that do not support and opposition or a different view and still people complain that there is no democracy in those countries. it is not the first time that within ANC that we have a race of leadership though this has drawn more sharp spears than before, yet it doesnt mean anything as long as that is been done in accordance to the policies of the organisation. I would rather live in a country like this that promote the right to oppose and citicise like most of the forum members do, than an oppresive system that doesnt promote dialogue and differnt views of its society.

We need a snappy acronym for thread derailment :p. Just because you visited wikipedia and it told you that no universally accepted definition exists, it doesn't mean a democracy cannot be characterised by well-defined principles ;).

People speak of a post-94 democracy because that is the official dispensation that we live in. Are you saying that democracy should be limited post-94 because we didn't have one before '94?
 
Has anyone been following the election campaigns in the US? now if guns a re blazing and people get very personal and the black candidate has been accused of been a former drug addict and we dont hear of how US democracy is been compromised. In SA Mbeki says people should be carefull not to vote for rapists, and Zuma says Mbeki is a dictator already there is a foul cry on democracy and there are panic buttons alarmed for disaster coming. Could it be that we need to accept that South African we have no idea what democracy is, because we have never been exposed to it except when our family mebers visit us and compare what they have and what do we have. Or it could be that our participation in the process of democracy is so minimal or non existant and we just watching from a distance, raising our views or fears with who ever can listen.
