ANC - Western Cape independence!

Smaller places have been 'allowed' independence, even ones that have little means of supporting their people. Kosovo springs to mind.

Why not just immigrate then? Surely that's easier than trying to gain your own independance?
 
First of all... Kosovo is not independent. Klaar. Kosovo was a major mind-fsck of international law. To see independence done properly (via referendum)... look at Montenegro. In whose case... they had 51%. No need for 66,6%. I could point o earlier examples, but Montenegro is the last one where a referendum is held.

The fact of the matter is that with the majority Cape Coloured population - the Cape (W&N) could possibly have a valid reason for independence.

I suppose so. I just think it's more of a win-win situation for the people living in the WC. What about the rest of us poor suckers?

Yes shame, but do you think you would be worse off if the Cape is independent? At least you will get ride of all the counter-revolutionaries:)

Not sure who that's directed at :-) However a post or two further I say it was from my inbox, which I received from the Cape Party so I couldn't give a link, however they do state it was quoted in the Cape Times.

Serget... Part of the Cape Party's policy is that they are standing nationwide, not only in the Cape, although independence for the Cape is their main goal. I also have it on good authority that ex-pats would be welcome to move back to the Cape. Which makes it all the more attractive to me personally :D

They have some very interesting ideas, if only to be nosey go look at the ideas they have...
 
By doing this, aren't they ensuring a massive majority vote in the next election?
 
The next 4/5 years will be very interesting indeed, I'm hoping to see a big "recruitment" drive...and a massive "education" exercise. I'm loooving the fact they want to base the Cape's political system on the Swiss model.

There's not one "president" as such, it's a council of presidents who consult and make decisions for the country. Am also liking "direct democracy" where a referendum can be called by the voters, to qualify for a referendum you need the support/signatures of 50 000 people collected within 100 days and then a referendum will be called. Nice!

Quite a large percentage of my TAX money has gone into building that city.

Early days yet I think the same could be said of all tax payers, how they're going to handle that little gem I'm not sure.

No doubt they have an idea on how to "recompense". Alternatively you could move to the Cape and see your tax Rands doing what they are supposed to be, instead of buying gravy powder ;)
 
Yes the Cape Party has produced figures to refelct this. But I can empathise with davemc as that's not quite his fault. More mismanagement from the government's side.
