Right, so today I went to the local office again, spoke to the dude and i had techies working on line an hour later as it was an actual cable fault. This was then working around midafternoon. So in theory everything is now sorta working fine. Tried to get adsl but did not have time to stuff around.So I phoned telkom and I got transferred a number of times on all the numbers try to get sorted. My modem is not syncing with them but the helpdesk ou could not see if it was them or me, which they noramlly can tell, so hopefully they where still busy with the line? So when I get home I will try again and set up the whole thing.
If anybody has the same router as me(netgear 834g) then pls pass on all knowledge to me(like settings or anything). I have done pc stuff and networking but am outta practice so sum of this stuff is either new or forgotten already.
If i don't come right then ill go and try the other filters. My one is and microfilter and spliter and comes with a diag instructions and has a referance to telkom( as in the actual line) so i can't see why it don't work.

verifyadsl page always returned with wrong DN or line number.etc......checked with helpdesk my order number is correct........

i have a netgear dg834gt, and everythings working properly, with the supplied filter, you just have to follow the instructions....

Sure, I am getting to grips with root menu and the settings etc on the router and nothing seems outta place,(ie, it all makes sense). and it turns out my line is still not fixed properly, which will HOPEFULLY happen tomorrow.
The telkom office guy is sending a techie to the unmanned exchange to which I am on in the morning.
If all goes well I will post my success on here sometime tomorrow before 4.

If you're south of Dbn, call a sweet and helpful lady called Bongi at the Amanzimtoti tdelkom office. She has organised 3 connections I know of, all within 13 days. Mine was one of them.

did you manage to use the filter included with the router?

Oh god yes. Finally. I am online on adsl. I am well plesed right now.
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 8.672 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 470.5 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 57.7 (kiloBytes/second)
I should be on dsl384.
So thanks to all you shared advice with me.
Cheers.:)

It was fun while it lasted. My line went down today around mid-day. It is completely dead. No dial tone etc....:mad:
Oh well.
In the process of fixing it. I went to local offices again, tuned the oke there and I had to wait on their phone to talk to a fault guy. Apparently my adsl order is stil open and has not been finalised. so before a fault can be logged My adsl install which I did on Fri needs be be done.....
And while I was at the office 2 ppl where in there having a HUGE rant at anothe guy behind be desk. they had 2 year incomplete adsl orders or something. I sould not have laughed but at 1 point the 1 guy ranting shouted how he can touch tomorrow with this type of service.
I felt sympathy for him.
I must be fatalistic or something cos all this just makes me smile, but I will sort this out sooner rather than later. I was enjoying local ut2004.
