Android 5.0 Lollipop launched

I spoke to a Samsung employee over their chat support and he clearly stated that if you flash another firmware (official or not) with Odin, the warranty is void. So keep that in mind when you consider flashing another firmware.

For Samsung, you can use Odin, but see my earlier post. And no, you would go into download mode to flash the Samsung firmware with Odin.

You can flash any Samsung firmware for your phone without issue. You just cannot downgrade firmware, as that isn't allowed.
Flashing any custom rom or bootloader will trigger the flag automatically.

Not the same thing. The yellow flag indicates that your bootloader is unlocked, and there are apps that will hide it. When you lock the bootloader again the flag goes away.

The Knox trigger is permanent.

What would you use to flash the firmware? Why is downgrading not allowed?

I see a lot of conflicting things about Samsung. But what does vodacom say about flashing other firmware (even Samsung ones). They are your first stop for warranty claims and I am sure they will use any excuse to void your warranty.

No they are not, My first port of call is Samsung's web chat.

Good question. Maybe we should ask @Ockie where the phones are sent for repair first. If it is sent to Samsung, then VDC will act on Samsung's warranty report
 
One of my colleagues bricked his Galaxy S3 earlier this year while trying to load a custom rom. Took it to the Samsung care centre and they repaired the phone under warranty no questions asked.
