It might well be that Google is doing this as part of a secret deal with The Great Surveillance States (USA, EU, mainly) ~ Google will provide an easier secret back door, remove some 'sensitive user surveillance' capability, and help fight "fake news" on their platforms, all in return for better immunity from anti-trust prosecutions...

Guy relax, we will be long dead before skynet is born. Personally, the way the world is going, I am thinking of buying an alexa as well just to help speed up the training progress. We really could do with an all power Artificial Intelligence as we have soo little organic intelligence.

Xiaomi have found a workaround as users on Miui versions on top of Android 9 report that the in built Miui call recording is working for them 100%.

Thank God. I've been wanting to get rid of that upgrade notification and was afraid it was gonna remove the function.
 
Seems you have to root the phone but this is not the answer, they are advising on some sites against it.

Yep, turning a business smartphone into s**t. Have not updated any of my Note 9 devices and never will. Pie is the biggest load of s**t released for excited kids who like the layout of their device.

Screenshots of the S8 on Pie show it has native call recording, it all depends on what region you're in and it could be as easy as just flashing firmware from another region to have it built in.
