Its hardly trolling, I am sincerely shocked that those were the "top" staff picks. I am a fanatic android user and there are literally TONS of aps out there. Difficult to wade through them all to find the diamond in the rough. So I was just expecting more?

Aps like Pulse news reader
Advanced Task Killer
Layar (for interest)
Kindle
IMDB ap
ASTRO file manager
Places Directory
Dropbox
3G watchdog
Our Groceries

Or any of the UI upgrades out there?
As well as games?

I am too but there is no point in doing more than whetting readers appetites for finding out more and bear in mind that you're never going to win an argument based on opinion. It's not a truth vs fiction argument.

So many things to play with...

Touchdown:
If you want to sync with and Exchange server and not silently lose random meetings...

c:geo:
If you're a geocaching kind of person

Google sky map:
Great to show off your device to other people.

Opera Mini:
Small, fast, just works

Tricorder:
nuff said

Osmand:
Open Street Map app - offline map navigation

SDMove:
Easily see and move apps to your SD card (only those which allow moving, it's a bit more involved to move apps that don't want to go).

Titanium Backup:
Full backups and restore.

Tweetdeck:
Agreed...

Angry Birds:
Great time filler!

Market Enabler:
Lets you buy stuff from the Android Market...

ROM Manager:
Manage your ROMs, recovery and the like.

Terminal Emulator:
For the inner geek, you can drive your phone from green screen terminal

Inkpad:
Pretty good note taking app...

ES File Explorer:
I use it to wander around LAN shares and ftp servers.

ASTRO:
Another file explorer, I use this for device file access.

These some of the applications that have lasted on my HTC Desire, others have come and gone; but these suit what I do and currently work.

I can not believe no one is using Pulse. You can skip all the separate news apps with the best one of the lot.

Dropbox
FireFox to sync desktop and mobile
Tiger arcade (mame)
astro file manager
3 cube (best media player)

Um, no one is asking anyone to make the best list ever, period, no arguments. I never said the items on the list were not good, just that there weren't exactly a lot of them considering the vast amount of aps there are out there.

so ? at your response.

And I don't buy the 'whetting readers appetites' argument, any android user would be able to mention 10 other aps easily, just have a look at the responses already. It just feels like the reviewer couldn't be bothered to mention more. Or isn't an avid android fan and maybe he only has 6 aps and didn't feel like doing any research?

Well, give the reporter some pointers on how to improve for next time, simple as that? Perhaps it's not aimed at you?
What is the magic number in your books anyhow?

Also no mention of the fact that apps can be source from other places outside Android market.

Example the current special running at gameloft at

http://wapshop.gameloft.com/wifi/hdplus_full_shop/index.php

Or

Slideme http://slideme.org/

This is not iPhone where we forced to goto one place. If you truly wanted to spark peoples interest to go out searching I would think it would have been worth at least 1 line.

If there were only hundreds of aps, maybe a top 5 would make more sense. But when there are thousands and thousands spread across various app stores, 10 minumum. You could also split the lists. Have one for just day to day apps, a games list, browser list etc. Do that, and 5 would suffice for each. But a general top picks list should be more.

As far as pointers go? Make it a comprehensive list. Make it interesting for people. Show us stuff we may not have seen before. Research more. If you only use 6 apps, ask your mates what they're using. Check the internet out for new apps, download them and see if they're decent. Write about them if they are.

And assume that a lot of android users are doing the same.

And I feel this article is most defiantly for me. I am always on the look out for new aps that will give my android a new use.

Omg I just installed pulse and set it up. Was able to get rid of loads of single site apps. Amazing app.

Just remember to turn off background updates, and set it to update when you open it. South Africa's bandwidth is not kind to background update/polling applications.

How is Pulse better than Google Reader?

Its a visual reader check out the video.

It feels more like a magazine than a simple "wap page in an app". I love the way how I can set it to have different pages like an actual news paper as well, Sports, Tech, General News, Cartoons....

the only REALLY essential apps are rockplayer universal and astro file manager imo

Ok,

USB Webcam
Wireless WebCam

Just to make a quick short list of things already installed :D

Ok, I could not find a working version of those but found this beauty IP webcam and Tiny cam viewer.

http://www.appbrain.com/app/ip-webcam/com.pas.webcam
http://www.appbrain.com/app/tiny-cam-monitor-free/com.alexvas.dvr

Now if I can only get IP-webcam working with WebcamXP 5 or VLC or something other as a streaming device to the web to use as remote security cam I would be very happy.
