Android App & Widget Thread

GPS tracker lite: gives speed, altitude, distance, beeline, average, duration and maps of trips, eg walk, jogging, driving.

xperia flashlight: cool app to turn flash into a flashlight by the touch of 1 button.

droidzebra: Remember reversi (othello)?

RemoteDroid: Control your PC remotely. I have a 'media' PC connected to my TV and have been using wireless mouse/keyboard to control it while sitting on the couch. This has completely replaced that.

Install the server on your PC and then connect to it via wifi. Mouse works like a touchpad on a notebook and kbd opens up at a touch of a button. I was very surprised at the accuracy of the mouse.
Try Gmote (its on the android market) I feel it works alot better & you can play music on your pc or phone via the app. The windows installer boots up with windows too

G mote is a brilliant app though i find that to fast forward isnt great as you cant just drag your finger and also how are you supposed to minimize it if you want to check something on your pc?

I'm currently using: Handcent, Astro file manager, speedtest.net, Advanced Task Killer, HTC_IMO, Home button to wake app and Wireless tether...

Handcent is a terrific smsing application, the best I've ever used. I'm using the 4 different font packs available with it too. Awesome awesome awesome...

Advanced task Killer I'm probably going to uninstall as it not needed.

Wireless tether not working for me. Devices seeing the Droid but no throughput...

I've also rooted my phone and created an ext2 partition on the "goldcard" but apps not installing to SD card. Bit annoying trying to get APPS2SD working. Expended a lot of time and effort trying to get this to work but seems without using a cooked rom I cannot have that functionality...

Discovered ZENONIA this weekend...awesome Final Fantasy style RPG....40 hours of game play they say....check it out:-)

Another one: Xtralogic's Remote Desktop Client....So far by far the most usable remote desktop utility I have seen and used....It navigates and controls very nicely, and if I need a keyboard, I just hold my menu button in and it pops up and is functional.

Anyone know of an app that you can use to turn your data connection (EDGE/3G) On/off. Not the syncing, but disconnecting the actual data connection. With MTN there seems do be some problem when your connection is idle for a while. After that Opera Mini, browser etc. can't connect. Fiddling arrowed seems to make the little E icon refresh and then the data connection works fine again. Turning WiFi On and then Off also seems to help.

Awesome app for those soccer fans: World Droidcup. Gives you real time ( every minute ) updates on all past and current games

For the Desire guys, LED Desire Light to turn your camera flash into a "torch".

Edit: Check sig for app

Edit edit: streetview is so cool

I use QuickSettings, which has the APN Control on/off, among other toggle options (e.g. GPS / Bluetooth / WiFi)

Just replaced all my on/off apps with this one. Loving it. Thanks :)

Best of all it doesn't mess up my apn settings like another app i used

In order for A2SD to work you need to format the SD card you are going to use(not the gold card)

Gold card --------> used for rooting
SD card formatted, then convert EXT2 to 3 etc... more info here

Hey guys, do any of u guys use an app for text input? I prefer using an alphanumeric keypad but the default android one is a bit cluttered for my liking... I'd like to use one like NumberPad (http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/productivity/evenbetternumberpad-keyboard_gks.html), but its not a free app and as far as I know we can't get paid apps here in SA... anyone know of a good alternative...? (I've tried many)

I have the htc desire and it has 3 different forms of keypads that you can use, you just have to look under your settings. Or try swype out

Thanks, yeah, I have the Legend, I know there are 3 types, but I'm only interested in the "Phone Keypad" type... My fingers are too big and I make too many mistakes using the qwerty keyboards...

Oh, and I've tried swype, don't like it that much... prefer a good alphanumeric keyboard like my 5800 had, its so much faster...

For those that don't know; There is another "Market" available called Slide Me where you can download free or purchase applications using your credit card region free

What are some good widgets I can use on the home screens? My home looks so empty, and I don't want to put just icons on it, need some cool widgets...?
