Android G1 or iPhone?

Hmmm, maybe that was the idea with the Apple APN? Will chat to some people.

Do you think it will be a big requirement though? What is your typical data usage on iTunes in SA? I've downloaded around 20 apps over the last few months. Probably less than 50MB?
I think I downloaded 20 apps in the first day :o :D

Thing is I'm afraid to download anything via the phone on Vodacom and since I can get via my PC using local only it costs next to nothing anyway.

Then again I am using the US store - didnt even realise there was an SA version. :o

A bit of a sub-set...

As you know Vodacom zero-rated the Download Section on vodacom.co.za recently and Vlive has always been zero rated.

But I can't see Vodacom zero rating the App Store unless Apple get involved somehow.

Any particular reason why?

Well, I don't see a direct business case for it unless I'm staring the obvious in the face. :)

With the vodacom.co.za download section I argued zero-rating it would result in fewer support calls and Vlive generates revenue via on-line retailing. Even 4me has a business case to be zero-rated.

But not sure about the Apple site? What next? Microsoft's download servers? (The biggest talkers on our network, BTW).

Any good motivations?

How about that their downloads - including those from the SA version of the iTunes store - are akamised so it's only local bandwidth?

If people are only downloading 50mb of stuff over a few months (your guestimate) from the store its not going to be a bank breaker is it?

I agree the amount of data is not huge, thus my question above.

If we zero-rate one site, which one is next? You can appeciate this will open up a can of worms. Rouxenator will want all Nokia sites open, the gamers their servers, etc. They'll all feel *their* usage is more important.

Who then decides which servers should be zero-rated and where do you draw the line?

But a case for iPhone contract users could be made. *IF* Apple wants to play. Let me check.

If Nokia wants to akamise (sp?) their downloads, thereby picking up the bill for the international portion of the bandwidth, then why not? Apple is already bearing the brunt regardless.

There's not a lot of useful stuff for the Nokia anyway . . . . ;)

you must be either a clueless little man who never used a symbian phone before..or just ignorant. Symbian (yes its a Nokia OS) has the biggest library of aplications out there. Everything from emulators, word processors, straight through to full blown media players and 3d games....symbian and nokia has been doing it way before win mobile, or apple or htc's been at it...its a mature operating system

LOL - did I ruffle some feathers then? It was just a harmless dig at the [apparently oversensitive] Nokia crowd. ;)

Yup, and it proved the point. :)

That's why I said Apple, Nokia, et. al. will have to come to the party.
From what I see Apple is already at the party with their local downloads.

Bwahahahah you got to be kidding...have you even used an Iphone or a Windows Mobile phone? I have both and a nokia e51, the e51 is in the cupboard and it sucks. Nokia sucks.

Oh and show some respect to Bwana or else !! ;)

I have symbian, winmo and osx phones. I play on osx work on winmo and I gave the symbian phone to the gf to throw in her purse(aka lipstick, makeup, perfume and other girly crap washing machine). it gets no love from me :D

well I'll stick to my good old symbian until android arrives at least..wont use win mobile..to top heavy and sluggish, wont go iphone their to stuck up with their proprietary bullsh1t (and sounds dumb but cant work without an qwerty keyboard or copy/paste),,,android looks promising but will have to actually use it myself before I make up my mind on that. But in my opinion the best business phone in SA currently is the e71 ..but suppose it comes down to personal preference

Yep, I agree that there is alot for Symbian and it was useful while I had it but I am getting android and happy for it myself. Talk about sluggish - you can't beat Symbian for sluggish IMO - maybe it was just my model of phone, but it was slow.
