Android >>> iOS

and if they dont? what then? cry in the corner, and go spend money at the idiotstore?
So, I like to make 100% sure of choice beforehand . I research .

If they're not available, I then evaluate how important the missing feature is to me .

Okay, sure, so should Google just not announce Android in June and wait till Dec for everyone to release? It's a weird argument to have, iOS is internal everything and you only see on launch/fully integrated to device, meanwhile Android you see when OS is done, not when sorted out for all devices yet.

That's a Google's issue with Widevine, not an app dev issue, but sure.
Isn’t it done in the open? It’s either you consider it as Google’s Android or not but you can’t flip the script.
Yes Google’s phone, on Google’s OS broke using Google’s DRM because Netflix certifies Android devices.

Sure, not saying automation isn't possible on iPhone, just saying it's more a case of a majority of it is Apple or nothing, issue is more that Apple (and Google for that matter) only allow tasks that they have allow: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/7-ways-to-trigger-apple-shortcuts-with-nfc-tags which nowadays means most stuff is good for the average user, but again, need to buy into that more premium ecosystem to get it to work right, it's homekit or nothing.
Yes, and people are fine with nothing.

I still blame Windows for not integrating it yet with e.g. e-mail app, this should have been built as a windows API by now.
Windows Hello. The devs just haven’t integrated it.

When Netflix yanks support like they did with the Telkom boxes, you can understand why people get annoyed.

Sure, but how much better. The argument is odd, because any major app will have tests to make sure it works on the most popular Android devices, same as on Apple. None of the apps I use have any issues where I can go "oh, this is because they didn't optimize for Android device's hardware/my screen size", outside of an app where it doesn't understand notch because the app last updated in 2017. WhatsApp, Spotfiy, Telegram, my banking apps, Oculus, Netflix, Teams, my vacuum app, authenticator apps, FF/Chrome on mobile, discord, etc. all work fine.

I'm not doing something like video editing on my phone outside of trimming it, video compression when sending is fine as well, nothing noticeable is an issue. The argument just doesn't work anymore, outside of where devs are purposefully being idiots, Instagram being one where they don't support full fold size since they want to force certain amount of scroll for adds, same reason they only support portrait on iPads.
Its not about if it work or not or have issues. Its about making it the best it can be. The layout, ease of use etc. Easy to optimize everything for 3 phone sizes/chip etc, not for 1000

I think you've missed the whole point of the thread .

If you take the list of the best camera smartphones (a priority for me) , the top 2 are Android - and that's great !

But neither are available here ...?

The next on the list is an iPhone- and it's cheaper than the S21/S22

A R5,000 Vivo isn't as good, as much as you may like to believe it

if thats what you want, enjoy! I wont be spending my Money there ever in a Million years, even when I have one of their Garbage products to throw at one of their reps.

I do me, sticking not necessarily with Samsung, but with Android till the day I die.
For someone who couldn't figure out typing istore.co.za into their browser address bar, that's probably for the best.

Look, I think I've dug into enough to see where I'd lose or gain .

The reason for the thread was to see how easy it would be to take my data over, like my Gmail contacts which have automatically synced for many, many years .

@Tsepz_GP I know you've have an idea of this - how are the features of the iPhone camera compared to the Huaweis ? So, I know zoom is lower on an iPhone - but other things ? Manual mode ? Slo-mo is still 240 frames ? They have the other features as well like night / wide / macro / aperture ?
So my iPhone is an 11 Pro Max (2019 iPhone)
Don’t know if they have improved the slo-mo on the newer ones but yep on mine it maxes out at 1080@240FPS.

Camera settings are not as extensive as a Huawei at all, so no Manual Mode.
Night Mode is available and is very good but is on an auto detect basis which is the only annoying thing for me.
Wide angle is available indeed!
No aperture control.

It goes without saying, Apple seem to be very focused on videography these days, the iPhones excel at that, they have not given as much love to the Image side besides giving bigger sensors, benefits from better image processing in newer chips and ProRAW imaging.

If anyone with a 13 Pro/Pro Max can confirm as I know with the improvements in the A15 they have added a few more things.

fair enough, I do the same thing when Picking an Android phone,

I actually advise you go and get a Cheapy iphone, see how everything works on it first, load your stuff on it,
then when you willing to buy into their cult, go buy a Idiotphone 13 or whatever, now that you know it works.

best bet is not to listen to me/others go out and test it for yourself and then make the jump.
me? Hell will freeze over before I walk into an idiotstore and buy an idiotphone with my own money.

When Netflix yanks support like they did with the Telkom boxes, you can understand why people get annoyed.

That was an extreme case and - from my understanding - the first case in the world of that happening ...

And on the other side, that box was pretty old and I don't think the impact was as great as people may think .

Ok - thanks man !

Better to have never loved, than to have loved and lost.

Isn’t it done in the open? It’s either you consider it as Google’s Android or not but you can’t flip the script.
Technically Android does not belong to Google, and I was discussing app support.
Yes Google’s phone, on Google’s OS broken using Google’s DRM because Netflix certifies Android devices.
Would you like to link Apple's FairPlay issues? https://www.theoplayer.com/blog/workaround-safari-fairplay-regression-ios-ipados
I don't understand your argument here, entire discussion was general support/testing of apps against phones, the actual OS messing up is not the same thing.
Windows Hello. The devs just haven’t integrated it.
Then you'd need to set up a connection between the MS account and the service, I'd prefer not to have that.
When Netflix yanks support like they did with the Telkom boxes, you can understand why people get annoyed.
Why do you think Apple boxes would be immune as well then? I am highly doubtful Netflix will pull support on Nvidia shield devices either.

Pixel experience didnt work with one app of mine, so switched to another one,
one advantage with android, isnt working, get another. you arent tied down to Apples way or the highway.
Precisely why I got tired of mucking around with Roms - worra waste of time

and even the new Rom I have right now, Pixelexperience is built in just called something else, so same features
and nothing lost.

Apples idiotphone, same from the day I got it till now, stupid and slow and useless.
That battery was probably shot from the first day you got it which is why you've had a kuk experience since Day 1 - quite honestly, it's like being given a Ferrari with bald tyres and worn brakes expecting a great experience.

but then again, I do have to say thank you to Apple for one thing.

Im never going to be a customer of your overpriced, Spying, Garbage based ecosystem in a Million years.
Im fortunate to have never fallen for the Hype, and fortunate to not have had somebody try to convince me, or gotten it as part of an upgrade.

Ive actually used a idiotphone and come away less and less impressed with the Device.
so silver lining in all of this I guess.

Tbh, I'm still amazed Apple or iStore haven't bought apple.co.za, it's broken now but it's registered to "The Core Computer Business, PTY LTD".

So, do I come across as frothing and - at times - annoying as @eg2505 ? :/

I've tried those cheapy phones (mostly 'cos I wanted to keep my Andtoid knowledge current - my Mom and Sister have Androids and ask me for help all the time)

Was not a good experience, clunky, inconsistent experience.

I would definitely not recommend a cheapie - you get what you pay for - kuk

If you're going to go Android go with the most expensive one available
