Android paid apps finally available in SA

Applications has to be set by the developers

When you submit an application to the Android market you select what countries have access to that application. This allows you to for example sell an app only in one country.
We have full paid access all we need now is the developers need to edit their applications or when they add an update it will prompt them again.
All developers has been notified via email from Google about this changes.

If you dont see any changes by end of the month you could maybe mail the developer yourself to ask him to enable it.

Note: Game developers can do the same and give us access to buy games. I just dont know how well it will go down with FPB if they are unrated.
 
Really happy about this, about time- at least za seems more in the flow of things with regard to technology now :)

It depends on the app. Some of them have limitation in free versions, and others lets you remove irritating ads in the paid versions. Unfortunately, none of the paid versions of some free apps I use has been flagged for South Africa yet, so I didn't spend any money yet. Soon, though - very soon.

I am still on Symbian, my Sony Ericsson Vivaz which I thought they would port Andriod to still only has Symbian as an option (and sorry to say Symbian is NOT stable!!), was also keen to give Meego a bash as I thought it would be available for the Vivaz as well, but alas no:(

Quick question, can you pay for Android Apps via Paypal?
 
I've just created a developer account, but it seems that people in South Africa can't sell apps (yet).

I'd love to be proven wrong, but on the Market control panel it lists me as "Publisher: Free Applications" and I have to set up a Google Checkout account.

Since Google Checkout doesn't have merchant accounts in South Africa, it seems I won't be able to sell apps from here yet.
 
My current Vodacom contract can't run out soon enough! I'm hopping over to RBM and I'm even more excited about getting a Android phone now!

That might be the problem as I can sell apps, but my banking details are link to my US bank account.

Copyright laws, region differences, etc. etc. Plus, they probably wanted to make sure that there was an actual target market for it before they launched it.

Aargh: that's it then: Google can take our money, and we can do nothing to earn it back!

Who knew it would be waaaaaay more complex to funnel money OUT of the country than in.
 
Nice about time, I would even pay for a DSTV Drifta app if they ever make one
 
Hey guys. Can you see Google Mail or Google Maps in the Market? I'm in Botswana and we also now have access to paid apps, but some of the Google apps (and maybe some others, I don't know) still aren't available :-(
 
I can honestly say I've only ever wanted one paid app on the Android market though. That said, hopefully the wider availability of paid apps inspires developers to step up their game. Until now I've been happy on the free apps, it's only games that seem to undershoot those on the Apple market.
