Android set to dominate mobile

If you think that it is correct then buy your Apple shares right now !!!
That doesnt sound like a bad idea.

While the market share stats are nice for PR, a companies success will ultimately be judged on its bottom line. Here's a view from the financial perspective ...

The part that stands out for me is ...

Google will probably report about $6.5 billion in total revenue when it releases its first quarter results later this week. Apple's iPhone alone will very likely eclipse $11 billion for the March quarter. For 2011, Google is expected to report about $27 billion on the top line compared to the iPhone's expected $48.2 billion in revenue. The iPhone as a business is nearly twice the size of Google's entire operation.

Now thats some perspective. The iPhone alone will bring in double the money that everything Google does, and remember its just one of Apple's product lines. Going forward the iPad is most likely going to be their next cash cow.

You do realise that Android isn't just about Google? Especially when it comes to earnings.

Of course, collectively the Android ecosystem (HTC, Samsung etc.) will produce more revenue, but the hardware partners are essential passive passangers when it comes to the evolution of the platform (they would jump ship if a new superior ecosystem were to evolve).

Its Google alone that steers the ship and its their investment in R&D that will determine pace of forward evolution. But in the continuing innovation arms race they're stacked up against an advesary with a clear superiority in wealth & resources (not that that guarantees victory).

There is only one problem with those figures. I get that iPhone alone makes more money and Google. The problem is Google is a add company. They make no money off Android. Hell they even give the money they make off the Store to the OHA. So in the end those numbers is like comparing a Shoe store to a Car Dealer.

Google makes money if you buy an iPhone or an Android. They just dont want Microsoft to be on top. So its more about securing there actual market than trying to outsell someone else. Apple's is actually the one that face real threat, because Google doesn't need to win the race, not that it would be a bonus for them if they do.

If you look at the past, Apple been in this exact same place... just before Jobs ran the company to the ground.....Lets just hope history doesn't repeat itself.

If you were comparing iOS to Android, then yes. But you've brought in the revenue streams generated by the hardware as a justification for Apple's dominance. If you're going to do that you just compare apples with, er... apples *chortle chortle*

Really? Despite it being idiotic to compare the situations I would love to hear how you believe Steve Jobs ran the company into the ground.

Internal power struggle and bad management decisions its well documented, but depending on what side of the coin you get it from the stories differ.
It is also well reported that there was a steep decline in sales just before he was asked/or left by himself in 1985. Up until 1984 Apple and Microsoft where not very far apart in unit sales.

Also there is allot of fears with Steve's management style that should he suddenly leave the company that could face a crisis. I dont think it will be a crisis within the company but more a case of how the Share holders see such a threat. All you need is a couple of Big guns dropping shares like hot potato's to cause a landslide after say a sudden departure.

I believe Woz is going to become more prominent at Apple as Jobs fades out and that is something to see forward to. He's the real deal. He's already making noises of a more open Apple ecosystem. Apple has got a huge amount of energy that hasn't been released yet.

It's the end of the world. To be honest, I love Woz more than Jobs
