HI. Looking for an Android streaming box for my (technophobe) dad, was gonna buy him the same one I've got, but the remote has no media controls (pause, stop, play) which will just be a PIA for him to constantly move the cursor around the screen to do anything. It must work with iPlayer. If it's not simple to use he just won't use it.

I believe the Amazon Fire Stick is the only device we can get in SA that natively supports the iPlayer app, as in, you don't have to side load the APK. And the Fire Stick comes in a few different options so you can have the media controls on the remote.

Anyone using this setup and can confirm they can install from Play Store & control the iPlayer app with Fire Stick remote?

Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks.

You can install, iPlayer, ITVX, ALL4, MY5 and STV from the Playstore on a Firestick. Firstly you will require a UK Amazon account, secondly an Address and post code, as well as a VPN / SmartDNS. You should be able to do similar on a Mi-Box or similar Android device.

Works a treat on my Fire TV 4K MAX stick.

Thanks, good to know the Fire Stick is supported. Tick to all the UK accounts, lived there for years up until recently.

You may, need to use an e-mail address, created in the UK, for your Amazon UK account, had issues with them, till I did this. But I cannot say with absolute certainty that this is a requirement, and was what solved the issue. It has run that way now for 3-4 years, and no issues.

Thanks for the heads up. I've created an iPlayer account for him which he can currently access with a laptop, maybe creating an Amazon acc while connected to a uk vpn will do the trick.
