Android Useful Apps

Removing security?
Many of Samsung proprietary features cannot work within Googles security measures.

With the last os audit they tested all manufacturers variations of Android 7 including the original, a few major customs and obviously cyanogen, with the exception of Samsung they all had the exact same flaws/vulnerabilities, Samsung had 13 more., some of which Google had already fixed.

The also blacklist their applications from being cleaned out by the memory manager when not being used. All of Samsung own apps are always running regardless of weather or not you have EVER used them.

interesting. have an article or something i can read?

Correct, at least for then it's if this then that, no and that and that and that as well. Lol

I use tasker for such things, or used, the newer the os the more limited tasker abilities become with Google locking more and more features behind the system layer, so sans root you SOL.

Just returned to Android (not Samsung/no Bixby) and was anticipating a Tasker install (for relatively basic automation) once I familiarised myself with OS again. Are you suggesting that it'd be a waste of time now?

It depends on exactly what you want to do, many of the sections in systems setting, pretty much anything previously linked to flaws or bugs have basically been locked down.

Tasker can toggle wifi, but not 3G, for myself, I had a sleep profile that disabled my internet as a whole when the screen was off, the task bascially just set the variable that controlled that.
Now wiht my Nokia 6 that is un-rootable, I cannot use those profiles.

Haven't tried it, but just read about it:

Datally: mobile data-saving & WiFi app by Google

Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.freighter

And report per app as you use it?

Have you tried Bluemail?
Yes. Didn't do it for me. Not a bad client but nowhere as good as Aquamail. I've always used k9. K9 is brilliant but to give you an idea of how pedantic I can be, the closing animation on k9 was a bit stuttery so I sought an alternative.

Edit: only just scratching the surface on Aquamail but it's in a different league. I wasn't at all comfortable shelling out R120 on an email client but I can honestly say it was well worth it.

Shelling money on email clients pffft, Samsung's email app is still the best for my work mail I've used.

I see absolutely no reason to change from the Gmail app. Why do you want to delete email inapp without deleting it on the server? Star it and let it move down.
The search feature also mean you don't have to star or remember much.

If space is an issue, do not auto download attachments and email images.

Yeah, I prefer a one stop solution that caters for all 4 email accounts I'm using.

My primary email client is actually Outlook on PC so it's on my PC where I decide what mail to delete and what mail to keep for future reference. My email backup resides on my PC in the form of an Outlook pst file. I also find Outlook native search features to be vastly superior to any web based solution.

Space isn't an issue either. Neither is data so, by default, I want all mails to download in all their intended glory...
