Another DSTV channel shuffle

Why does everyone make such a big deal about it? There's so few channels it's really not that hard to memorise where the channels are. Plus, if it's so hard one can just use the "grid" of channels...which I do when changing channels anyway.

this is crap , no no no , its not easy to learn all the nice channels by heart !!!!

We do it because we think it stinks to stick up for Monochoice... in fact it sucks to not complain about them... go start your own little club somewhere little man!

:p
Just kidding lol... seriously...
I speak for myself... I hate monochoice... I have threads to prove it :p

Byt it's my sincere hope that they realised how rubbish their decoders are and how they misbehave. My five year old Tivo is light years ahead when it comes to operating it. With DSTV it's hit and miss.

Who out there uses the 'jump' button to switch between two channels? My heart sinks every time I want to use it... I can't bring myself to pushing those three numbers only to see it go to the wrong channel 7 times out of 10... then you go back and try again... I just use the channel up and down button.... even that's erratic and sometimes it mutes the sound or other stupid stuff....

Bleah!

about bloody time.
dont know why they didn't do it like that to start off with..

channeling just like oversea. ;) expect with a little downside. we dont have as much channels 2 watch :(.

it would be easier to find the crap you can watch, but no matter how much icing you put on it, it's still overpriced crap

I seriously thought this was an April Fools Joke ! It seems DSTV abide by the 1st of Apr rules the whole year round. It seems they are continually moving stuff around so their remaining subscribers think there is value for money in paying R500 a month to these thieves.

They are reshuffling to fit in all the new channels, people *duh* /sarcasm

I'm glad they're doing this - it actually makes sense. Ever since they put the Movie channels in the 150s I've ignored them.

102 just annoys the crud out of me - if it's not for my area why do I have to see it? Put that (and a few others like 105/107) up in the 900's please.

Here we go again, wait for another 6 months then they will shuffle them again. Oh well I guess this way when the repeats are on you can learn the new channel numbers

I don't care about channel shuffles. What I do care about is the crap software on my single view decoder. The information bar still only shows now and next, and the metrorail colour scheme, sick. The parental control feature is terrible, sometimes it makes you wait twenty seconds when changing channels before a picture appears. I used a sky box in 2002 and it was far ahead of what we have now. Showed the next few programmes for each channel, never froze. I wonder if they'll ever do something about it.

DStv does the channel shuffle to entertain us! They repeat everything and before we start to complain about that, they do the shuffle trick. Then we all go like whoooooo, its a new channel and everything.

The really annoying thing is to now go and re-program all the remotes that shows just the channel icons.

The current (soon to be replaced) numbering system never made sense to me, but with an icon-based remote you really don't care if the numbers makes sense as you never see them.

But now they need to be re-done all over again...

This might be old news but I recently did a firmware upgrade on my PVR and they now have a dstv on demand section. There's only 6 or 7 things currently on demand but its a good start. They've made some nice changes in the FW.

they best leave the sports channels alone. they are the only ones i know.

Seems like MultiChoice didn't read my survey feedback...
There was a survey?

I tend to agree with you, but I also suspect that you're buying into [Mo]noChoice's propaganda - I doubt that [Mo]noChoice decided to do this based on feedback from customers - it's more like [Mo]noChoice realised it stuffed up with the previous shuffle, and is now appeasing one of its directors who probably complained that the channel numbers were all screwed up & don't make sense from a logical grouping POV.

I've ignored the movie channels not bcos I couldn't get to them easily, but rather bcos there wasn't anything to watch on those channels that I hadn't seen before - several times - need I mention the ancient Die Hard films that were repeated ad nauseum...

Ditto that - also irritates the hell out of me.

To add to ic's comments:

Lydon - the grid is fine. but you still have to fight through a lot of channels you don't care about. i knew where i wanted was before. i haven't learnt since. except sports as i mentioned before. which reflects my main reason for having dstv actually. but the fact of the matter is that i sometimes want to check channels i like no matter how infrequently. and doing it from memory is less of a hassle for me.

bwana - have to agree with ic. if you wanted to know where the movie channels are you would know. much like i know where my sports channels are.

bwana - agree with your 102 statement (and sports channels above 209 but somewhere before 230). If my smartcard is area dependent, then f888 off with channels that have no hope of working in my area.

and why the hell have they moved things like the french channel to a seperate bouquet?

DSTV changing the channel number again

Just when we are used to the new channel numbers, DSTV is changing them again

They have been running a ad on Discovery all day, News and entertainment channels are changing on 1 May. News channels will be 400 and up

thats fine, use the channel grid to go to a channel, no need to learn numbers
you will learn the channel positions on screen quickly enough
