Another reason to buy a PS3...

I have also purchased a PS3 for media purposes mainly. That it plays games very well is a bonus.

but the price man...

@doobi, I don't wanna fight, but I have found that the added bonus (aka the included blu-ray device) is something that people like to have. And you can't forget that some people will buy the ps3 as a movie player (mainly) and the use the games function for the kids etc.

No argument, I agree completely, I know quite a few 'non gamer' folks who thought much the same. That's my position on consoles, both offer different propositions to the potential owner, it's about the buyers preference, which is why I tell people to look at the games, and understand what they want the device for.

The PS3 is going for 'Jack of all Trades', the 360 going for 'Master of Gaming'.

Several other consoles have tried and failed at this approach :/

The format war makes me laugh, especially to all those who think their blu-ray has got the best storage capacity...

If you wanted capacity then I'd rather get myself a HVD which can store 3.9 TB, yes, 3.9 TB. It also has a transfer rate of 128 MB/s compared to the 54 MB/s (theoretical) of blue-ray.

If Microsoft really wanted to beat Sony they should put their target on the porn industry, cause that's much bigger than any of those studios and would actually make much more money than they already are...

But who cares anyway, cause I'm a PC and Wii gamer, and don't really care about a overpriced 20 year old processor that suddenly hightec again and called the cell processor, or the fact they can connect you to the internet and let you play online.

I want games that'll entertain me, I've seen to many games with stunning graphics but it's not really fun to play. It's like choosing the hot blond with blue eyes that can't keep a good conversation... she might look good now, but in 10 years she's not gonna be that good anymore.

Just my Zim$ 0.02

Yeh OK Link please, where can I buy it, spit it out please WHERE can I buy it? ................................... I am waiting, ..............dammit.............

Thats it. NO-WHERE, but i can give you links to Blu-ray sales! That is no fart in the wind, its fact and its available NOW.

But do you actually have a PS3 to play it?

But do you actually have a PS3 to play it?

Nope, not yet but I know what to get. No XXX for me, I am not in porn (games). Have better things to do like jerk and posting here. I am rather after the Player that makes the unit.

Thats what all fan-boys will say :D You just have to justify your own purchase, no matter what!
Let's not turn this into a flamewar, let me rather convey my 360 experience for you.

I got my 360 about 2.5 months ago and ever since then I have not even thought of PC gaming! The amount of fun I've had playing games like Forza 2, Simpsons and trying out new user-created games from XNA is without a shadow of a doubt the best I've ever experienced.

Also, XBox Live is unbelievable. I play against locals every single night and they're some of the friendliest guys you'll ever come across. Sure it has nothing to do with the 360's specs or whatever but buying a 360 to be part of this great community is what's made this a purchase I'll never regret.

Back to the topic though, MS has canned the HD-DVD drive and I'll be willing to bet that they announce a Blu-Ray addon in the near future and once they do that you you go quiet unbunch your panties in the corner.

No flaming So yeah back to topic, as soon as the developers increased their IQ to fully use the cell structures in the PS3 and harness the massive power gains then we will see who will go and quietly unbunch your panties in the corner. :D

@Timgaul -- exactly why the PS3 is where it is now, third. It's value proposition has not been clear, at least they're changing that.

@Uno, what you're trying to say and what you are saying are completely contradictory and you're wrong anyway ;) PS2 was a games console, and it came out with no competition. Funny, the one doing that this time round is *gosh* the 360! Which is why it's 8 million units ahead of the Playstation 3.

BD is for farts who put presentation before content. Enough said.

BD didn't win on any technical merit, it won through the strong arm tactics of the likes of Sony and Disney. If the market had been allowed to run it's course HD DVD was already winning in the standalone player market through aggressive pricing and marketing. The only way BD could win, even with the PS3 was to hijack content.

Don't you wonder why Toshiba got the "HD DVD" moniker? It was the format created by the DVD forum to serve as the next gen format, designed with things like managed copy to serve the rights of the consumer, to which Disney objected and Sony saw an opportunity to make a format grab. Consider the final BD specification is STILL not ratified, any player you buy today is still already obsolete according to BD2 specs.

Sorry but BD is scum. </end rant>

Who cares? It (Blu-Ray) still is available, her and now and at that can play the currently released Blu-Ray HD movies. That the hackers lost their priority of having free reign can ill bother me. They will crack the Blu-Ray anyway. For now I say the best format with the best supporting backup won, The rest failed. its written in history no matter how you look at it and whatever excuse you muster. SONY as expected and predicted dished them all.

Rofl at ignorance!

I suppose you haven't heard that a few of the developers are switching lead platform to PS3? Lucasarts for one. I hear the cheer going up from the Peanut gallery, but if you stop to think about it pretty embarrassing for the PS3.

PS3 can't handle code from the 360. Yet every game that's been 'lead' on PS3 runs without issue on the 360. I spell it out how you PS3 fanboys seem to understand:

360 >>> PS3

So all XXX fan-boys believes. About my statement its not what I said its what the developers said. We will see that sooner than you can say XBOX 360. Anyway lets wait and see, no point in childish arguments of something you know very little off, All I know is SONY have more brawn there than Microsoft. PS3 will reign just like PS2 did (and it is still going strong), where is the old Xbox? Just a reminder of what is coming.

Doh, thanks for the hospital pass feo . . . ;)

Uno, I get that you're pretty new around here, but take my word on it, we've been down this road before and it's been nothing but tears, pain and embarrassment for the PS3. Just ask Eurogamer, it's lost 7 comparison showdowns in a row. By leading, the devs are finally showing it pity.

It's a done deal, playstation's glory days are gone. Even if it recovers and starts to shine, even if it can outdo the 360 by 100000 units a month, even 200000 it's still 8 million units behind, and at that rate it will only catch the 360 in 3 1/2 years, by which time MS and Nintendo are on to their next next gen in 2010/2011.

That's besides the fact that 360 owners buy more gamers, meaning devs will never nerf the 360 version of something in favour of the PS3 for fear of alienating up to 67% of the market.

Say what you will about what Microsoft did to get there, but fact is the 360 is in the driving seat this generation.

Good point, and the maths back it up - didn't think of it like that

Hmmm... released after the PS2 with better hardware - yet it still couldn't catch up. If you are claiming "cell chip" (i.e. the "better" console) on the PS3 it puts the console in the same category. Sorry, you shot yourself in the foot with that comparison.
