Ignoring the whole panties thing... Those developers are no idiots, to do some of the things they do is very difficult. These power gains are not as massive as Sony would like you to think. You are comparing two fairly evenly matched consoles, for reference see www.lazygamer.co.za - there is a technical comparison by killerhut submitted to Lazy by yours truly.

Bottom line if you are expecting the PS3 to suddenly rise up one day and absolutely blow the XBox 360 out the water with gameplay and graphics, then you are in for a very long wait.

The PS3 will do well with some games and the XBox will do well with others. As I said, it is a fairly even matchup.

Clearly you are the one who knows very little about the topic at hand. Myself and others have mentioned the same thing time and time gain with regards to the Cell processor and that is even if they are somehow able to extract more power from Cell the available RAM and GPU found in the PS3 (being inferior to the 360) would cause a bottleneck that would render the CPU improvement null and void.

EDIT: Why do I get the feeling that you are in fact NoADSLyet under a different user name?

my coz has an xbox and has really enjoyed it. there are some cool games for it.
i have a ps3 and enjoy it. i love hi def movies, and hi def games (cannot wait for the full gt5). im stoked that i can turn my console into a pvr, and (when i move to the uk) rent movies online through my ps3. its just a great little toy to have. and really the format war has been won because ps3 shipped with hi def and xbox didnt. xbox is cool but its 2.5. better than 2, but not quite 3 without enhancements

BD didn't win on any technical merit, it won through the strong arm tactics of the likes of Sony and Disney. Don't you wonder why Toshiba got the "HD DVD" moniker? It was the format created by the DVD forum to serve as the next gen format, designed with things like managed copy to serve the rights of the consumer, to which Disney objected and Sony saw an opportunity to make a format grab. Consider the final BD specification is STILL not ratified, any player you buy today is still already obsolete according to BD2 specs.

Somehow this blu-ray thing has left a lot of people feeling bitter. Shame can stand it when M$ supported format has lost. Even with all it's strong arm tactics and marketing muscle. M$ are the masters of this - go and follow the OOXML debate of a cheating scumbag company for an example of their dirty tactics.

Seems to be a lot of us 'farts' out there supporting the blu but you what it beats the hell supporting an inferior product, please check the first thread in this forum regarding RROD. Speaking about inferior products - how is Vista doing - latest reports indicate the the SP1 is breaking things even further.

And please stop spreading FUD again regarding an obsolete spec,the PS3 is well capable of firmware upgrades to support BD2 specs and any stand alone player with an ethernet port is well capable of being upgraded as well.

Please also care to back up your claims about HD-DVD leading the way, every other market report I've seem indicated the were probably even with blu-ray disks outselling HD-DVD.

War has been won, time to move on now.

Just received the Resident Evil 3 on Blu, will post some feedback regarding the quality.
But again for those of you with a blu-ray player and HDTV - you must get Planet Earth in your collection and then decide for yourself if BD is scum.

You're confusing issues here by talking formats and then pointing at specific hardware capable of playing those formats. In which case MS releasing a Blu-ray player and the next line of standalone players (being both cheaper and more feature filled than the PS3) renders your argument even more incoherent.

The PS3 cannot rent movies yet that's a xbox 360 feature ;)

The xbox 360 does offer full HD gaming (yes 1080p and all that)

I wonder how this rumour about only the PS3 doing HD gaming came about?

What in the hell does Windows have to do with this? Btw, my Sony Ericsson cellphone got damaged a month or two ago - so I will never ever buy a PS3 because obviously the phone and the PS3 are so closely connected that they must influence eachother and their design. :/ Pfft.

It was never intended to be for us. However in every 1st world country it makes perfect sense that physical media can be done away with.

You would think that with the net being widely available (even at dial-up speed) that they should be able to make informative arguments based on facts and not wild rumours or opinions.

Can I answer that pleaase? :D

I don't think the win for Blu-Ray in gonna mean that much in the long term, like somebody rightly said, there's already tons of activity on XBLVM (albeit not for us Saffers) and I can definitely see Europeans and the Japs using digital distribution as their primary way of getting all their HD/SD content.

The situation is very different here at home though, *****e internet = physical media FTW! Until we get a significant boost in download speed and also uncapped interwebz, physical Blu-Ray media is gonna be the main source of HD content.

People posted replies on this topic without any regard to facts.
Just because someone own a PS3 does not make it THE best console.

I should have posted my opinion though.

The PS3 is far from the victor in the war of 360 vs PS3 the Blu-Ray is just a bonus.
The PS3 at the end of the day is a gaming console. Good game titles is still essential for the console to sell.
I have a 360 that can play dvd's, I don't use it to play my dvd's though, I use a dvd player for that.
Same with the PS3, I will buy a Blu Ray player if needed.
I also think that the age of DVD is far from finished. The Blu Ray player is a fad at this stage and has hardly become a must-have item in every home across the world. The Blu Ray drive is too expensive and by that not popular enough at this stage to make it viable for the every-day user.

So a short answer to your question:
No, the fact that it has a blu ray player does not incentivise me enough to spend R5000+ on a gaming console that has a VERY limited game library at the moment.

Yes the PS3 is the only BD player that's forwards compatible, how about all those poor sods that forked out for "better" standalone players? Isn't it odd that Sony waits till just a week after the demise of HD-DVD to finally announce their new BD players that are finally forward compatible for spec 2.0, but at $500!

So they've done nothing but flood the market with obsolete junk just so they could push the price up once they've monopolized the market. As an evil genius I salute them for that. ;)

And don't come with that OOXML standard garbage. The OSS consortia want to corner the goverment markets by making MS adopt their standard. The truth is that in order to maintain document compatibility with some of Offices features there are extensions in the Microsoft format not covered by OOXML.

Office still supports OOXML as a format via plugins, it's just not it's primary format. Stop reading the Penguinista Paranoia.
