Another reason to buy a PS3...

I hate to break it to you but the studio's couldn't care less if Blu-Ray could hold 20-50-1000 gigs...

I am presuming they backed Blu-Ray because Blu-Ray is keeping the regioning idea which makes the studio's money. HD-DVD was not going to do this.

Either way it's a mute point, Toshiba has thrown in the towel and Blu-Ray is the future.. All hail Blu-Ray :D

I am still not using my gaming console to watch movies, I'll rather get a stand alone player

oh well... lol they will release a 100gb disk which can play on all current players. With means, you can have a whole season of you favourite tv show, in HD :D

Thousands bought the PS3 for better use than only wasting/killing time on a imaginary pseudo games controlled life. About the 50 Gig we will chat again in future same again with the so called regions dilemma.

You do realise that the gaming industry actually created more income than the movie industry last year. So maybe you are the one wasting time watching BR movies :D

1) Generally consoles are bought for gaming purposes as they are intended for that. Anything else is an added bonus
2) Your argument that only the gaming obsessed buy consoles purely for gaming is a load of shyte. Consoles are more likely to be purchased by those who enjoy games, but do not have the time (or ability) to fiddle about with PC's. i.e. those who do not have the time available for a "game controlled life" as you put it :rolleyes:

True. Replacing all PS3 players is not an option. So, not matter the size increase the PS3 is incapable of reading the disc. lol

Ah... incorrect, the ps3 can read 100gb disks (Quad layer) with just a simple update... so maybe they will push the current players. As it stands, the current players are, um, really expensive, so if they can make them last as long as possible, then there's hope. and not many people are into the whole mass media thing, so 100 gb's on a single disk will do just fine.

the funny thing is, since the ps3 has the blu-ray rom in it already, it makes the unit just that, a unit. it's all good and well saying that the xbox 360 just needs the add on, but (this is my feelings) the fact that you gotta go out and buy a separate disk reader, is not what you buy a media center for (I say a media center because that just what it is when you watch movies)

and there's something none of you have thought of, a blu-ray player needs internet access, which means some folk would rather use wifi then a cabled access... which is another cost.

If M$ gets a blu-ray player, they will cost about R2000-R2500 (in south africa ) which is alot of moola. so, lets say the xbox costs R3000 + blu-ray player R2000 = R5000 which can be compared to the ps3 :D lol...

Current players can handle 2 layer discs, maybe 3, I don't know if that's in the spec or not, but that's a max of 75Gb.

At the price of burnable BD discs it's cheaper to buy a 250Gb SATA drive . . .

well... go onto wiki :p ... the current players will play 100gb 4 layer disk... but then again the price is high. but the price will come down

Unfortunately this kind of comment isn't justified. Remember these consoles are essentially for gaming. Many people would rather not have the Blu-ray drive that contributes to increased costs. Microsoft has done the right thing by keeping the drive seperate (they did a similar thing with the Xbox in that you had to pay £20 extra to enable the DVD drive, which was licensing costs, essentially lowering the cost of the "game" console) and giving people a choice as to whether they would like a games console or an entertainment system.

If I take my current setup: I have the Xbox 360 which plays DVDs, but I also have a DVD player to play DVDs - I can do the same with a Blu-ray player. And you know what? Maybe thats what I want! Having a 360 gives me that choice :D
 
I would definately not buy a console for the dvd/hd/blu-ray rom that it had. If anything I might use the added bonus of media streaming and would rather get a Blu-Ray rom for my pc. If you want a games console then get one to play games not to watch movies on.

If you wanted capacity then I'd rather get myself a HVD which can store 3.9 TB, yes, 3.9 TB. It also has a transfer rate of 128 MB/s compared to the 54 MB/s (theoretical) of blue-ray.

If Microsoft really wanted to beat Sony they should put their target on the porn industry, cause that's much bigger than any of those studios and would actually make much more money than they already are...

But who cares anyway, cause I'm a PC and Wii gamer, and don't really care about a overpriced 20 year old processor that suddenly hightec again and called the cell processor, or the fact they can connect you to the internet and let you play online.

I want games that'll entertain me, I've seen to many games with stunning graphics but it's not really fun to play. It's like choosing the hot blond with blue eyes that can't keep a good conversation... she might look good now, but in 10 years she's not gonna be that good anymore.

@doobi, I don't wanna fight, but I have found that the added bonus (aka the included blu-ray device) is something that people like to have. And you can't forget that some people will buy the ps3 as a movie player (mainly) and the use the games function for the kids etc.

Exactly what I've done, Multimedia (Blu ray) for me, Singstar for the wife.
 
If I wont a PS3... I would sell it.. and not buy an Xbox.. because thats lame... I would buy a PC :D IE, a PS3 or Xbox that is more functional.
