Hey just a question..what is the point of bg? Yes its fun and twinking is lots of fun lol (i kick so much ass :) ) but yea there is no ladder system and besides honour and items whats the point of it all?

LOL gee thanks for clearing that up for me...i mean arena is just a game and supposed to be fun but its more than that.
Why cant they just do the ladder thing and offer prizes or something.. the top 3 on the ladder get free wow time..at least then we would have something to fight for ;)

There used to be a sorta ladder system pre-BC with Ranks and so forth but nowadays BG's are really just for farming Honour to get gear and for those that enjoy them.

BG's is only for easy epic gear [aka "welfare epics" ]. You usually need a few pieces from there to reach min requirements for Kara etc.

The PVP ladder now reside with the Arena ratings. BG's only give you some extra gear you can't buy with arena points.
The old BG rankings were a HUGE dissapointment tbh, and only people that could manage to play 10-20 hours per day could get anywhere. Be glad it is gone... If you want to rank yourself against others make an arena team...

Naaahh Werries I miss the old PVP ranking systems :)
When you saw a High Warlord you knew that guy had to put sooo much effort into reaching that status, not too mention the access to the best weapons in game ! The weapons were so good, they murdered PVE weapons !

The old ranking system, made PVP players work towards something... Like in PVE we work towards a boss kill to give us loot drops... in PVP if you saw a guy with Rank 14 High Warlord status he has weapons and gear that can inflict sooo much pain !

PVP today is not what it use to be... its easy epic's. I salute any PVP player that made High Warlord. Honestly, thats the biggest regret I have in WoW... that I never made HWL. Its one thing standing with full tier 6... but standing with Full Tier 6 and that HWL title... zomg... **drool**

QFT...

Back in the days of pretbc, the HWL players were gods!

Did a bit of AB a few weekends ago, a Tauren warrior on the ever popular Molten Core EU server was charging round... While he was slamming another warrior, i took him down. To my surprise he was a High Warlord  Havent seen one of those in a good 10-12 months

Come on Pornolio, those old rankings were useless. It all depended on how much hours you were willing to play, and had nothing to do with skill. If you have lost 300 games a day you would still get a decent ranking per week. But if you won 100/100 games you will get exactly the same adjustment...
Atleast seeing some one run around with 2000 arena rating you know they can pvp!

No no no... and I will justify why I say that. :p

Look anyone could put insane hours into grinding PVP rep like crazy... BUT that would only get you to rank 10 ... maaaaaybe rank 11 / 12. Rank 13 / 14, noooooo waaay in hell you could make HWL without going with the premade HWL pvp'ers. I know this because I have played with ex high warlords and the level of discipline they enforced in their premade groups knocked the socks off any high end raiding guild I have ever been in.

HWL's are a breed amongst themselves. They deserved that title. Any given server only had a select few of them.

A good example I can provide, is someone I know off... that paid a leveling service to reach Rank 14 for him. These chinese dudes played his shaman 24/7 for MONTHS. They could not reach rank 14. Eventually, the guys on the server started feeling so sorry for this guy, that the HWL dudes at the time, took him in, into their premade groups. Only then.... and only then did he make rank 14. If you dont believe me, just please have a look @ his lifetime kills. Now that proves beyond any shadow of a doubt, mindless pvp grinding would NOT get you to rank 14. Thats pretty much 200k hk's. I state again, Rank 14 was NOT just mindless grinding. You needed to win X amount of games per week. :)

Check it out... 172 days playtime before he made it... and he only made it because of the premade guys taking him onboard. They still made fun of him because of the chinese players playing the account, they couldnt speak English at all, and his English understanding was verrrry broken. So saying spending ludicrous time PVP'ing will get you a guaranteed HWL, is not entirely true :)

We even had guys making dummy applications to top guilds on the server stating he wants to raid ... with the most horrendous Ingrish words in the applications hehehe.

There was a player in our guild who made Rank 12. We had 1 alliance (Lightbringer) who made Rank 14

I agree with Pornolio, it took extreme dedication, day in day out of just PVP. I also agree with Werries, the first 8 ranks could be done with a mindless grind

There is a point as of today you can get your pet and tabard for taking part in bgs. Part of the Olympics special

I have four level 70's of various gear levels.

I take turns playing each of them, partly for the gear it provides but mostly for the fun of it. You can obtain a full arena set through BG's, albeit a few season behind the Arena players.

Saying that it is "welfare" epics ain't really fair. You can grind out Kara with pugs these days, pick up badges and gear quicker and with less hassle than doing BG's. Remember that you cannot simply sit in the AV cave to get honor, you also need marks from all four BG's to collect gear for each slot.

I have taken a break from Arena and find BG's to be a refreshing change from the heated Arena system.

Ye it looks quite funny. You get the tabard if your side wins a BG - and you get a gold medal if you perform well, I think.

I received one when I was in the top 3 in my side. Im not sure how many charges it has - but it summons a little spirit dude to protect you when you activate it.

Rather cute.

Naaah those pvp gear items are still welfare epic's in my opinion. :)

Those PVP epic items murdered the whole value and term of "epic" quality.
Epics today are not what they were in the old WoW days. Its just too easy to get them. HWL epic's... when it was just accessible to rank 14 players... now that was well deserved epic's !

Its simply just to easy to get PVP epics. Yes you can grind kara over and over for badges, BUT... it still requires you to down a boss to get your badge ! Meaning you need to have co-ordination, team work and proper skilled players to obtain that goal of killing the boss.

Now PVP... lets look @ PVP... you can go do 3000 games, you can loose all 3000 games... you will end up getting honour, and 3000 medal's. So you will end up getting your epic / epic's (which in my opinion was not a well deserved reward). You will get your epics no matter how bad you played. Its just a matter of time. ;)
