Hi guys,

I've been downloading like crazy on Newshost, Tuesday, Telkom called me to tell me that I've downloaded alot (lets say its 180GB) and that I will be billed for this.

Of cause, I'm stressing, because it will be a huge bill... my fault maybe so... but ya!

Anyone else had this happen?

I have another friend who is also downloading 100GB+ and refuses to stop, he actually wants Telkom to call him.
He says he will fight them if they bill him etc etc etc

What is your thoughts on this?

What I wanna know is, is anyone else also downloading 100GB+ and not got a call from Telkom.

Really? They actually called you? How much do they want you to pay for all that?

AFAIK you get 10GB local for every 1GB international- so if you have a 3GB account then you get 30GB local. After which, they start billing you per gig. :eek:

They've indicated R25.50 per GB after local allowance. So R25.50 x 150GB, if gdiza's only using 1 x TI 3GB account (which comes with 30GB local).

gdiza, perhaps you could avoid this if you buy another 5 x 3GB TI accounts? Those would give you 150GB local allowance...

I'm going to start hammering my account (do1). Just been capped so now I'll go out of my way for the next few days.

No point it looking for trouble if its a 100% uphill battle. Signed contract = pwnage.
 
I reckon we will hear some horror stories next month.
im sure some kids are either going to forget or dont know or maybe dont even care about the telkom charge per gig after their allowed cap.

i cant see how telkom can be very strict with the billing next month it being the first time they will be billing people like this.

Im keeping a close eye on my cap, i cant afford R4000 extra just for a phone bill. Thats crazy. (180 gigs over cap?)

Just a quick question: if you're doing this often, as in monthly - where the hell do you buy storage for this and surely the cost of all that storage is more than it would be to just leave it all online and download as needed? At some point you are going to end up with the WHOLE Internet on external drives ;)

180gb is preposterous - a 'go large' month for me would be 4gb.

...it begs the question of whether you actually understand the concept of the Internet as in one central repository...?

EDIT: also I'm glad I'm not on Telcon, I'd be pretty peeved at guys like this on the basis of ruining it for everyone else.

LOL @ SlinkyMike... 180GB is not hectic for one month unless the bandwidth belongs to TI...:p

400GB is more in the range of "preposterous"...:D
 
I would be donwlaoding this much if I get that **** to work... need to sit down and figure it out.... plus if I did, and Telkom tried to bill me for extra bandwidth I would read the terms and conditions of the service very closely, and if they cant do that in terms of hte letter of the contract I woudl tell them to go fkuk a cat!!!

I have a friend who downloads trance music by the bucketloads from online radiostations. He doesn't even listen to all of it.

They all sound the same to me.

You might want to check on things before rather than after - that way might save yourself a few rand. ;)

NEW capping policy w.e.f 1 February 2008 ~ Once your service threshold and collective threshold have been exceeded, you will be placed within your allocated Local Only bandwidth which is on promotion. As you will not be capped on local bandwidth, we reserve the right to bill you for anything exceeding the allocated local bandwidth that is on promotion. The charge for local bandwidth is R25,55 per gig. If you desire international surfing you can top-up your current username with additional blended bandwidth.

can't say that you were not informed .... "taking on telkom" isn't such a wise move. got your result

the borg shall now asimilate you :)
