agree for the first half and disagree for the second half...
business sense for them.. they wont upgrade, instead they can just leave us blaming each other(users) for raping the internet, they can just sit there can charge the same with the old slow server, so why for them to pay big money to get new servers?:rolleyes:

Is it fair to assume that these hundreds of gigs worth of downloads are copyright infringement at best downright illegal at worst? :rolleyes:

Some peeps really need to grow the *** up! For your own sakes and the rest of us ...sheesh!

I may as well delete this post - scanning back thru the pages its all been said already.

Your first 'assumption' is not only a generalisation but it also has nothing at all to do with what is being debated here.

It was a question in lieu of assumption - a law student should have picked that up :D , also it has lots to do with whats being debated here i.e.: abuse.

Fine, if you think that abuse that incorporates illegal material is worse than the same amount of usage with only legal content, I am inclined to agree :)

However, the notion that there is no way of using more than 30GB of bandwidth a month on reasonable, legal internet activities is completely baseless and flawed.

Furthermore, the fact that we are basically still debating the 'abuse' of local bandwidth, a term native to our shores only, it seems even more ridiculous to me, for people to speak up in defence of Telkom, which is what people in this thread, albeit tacitly, have done.
 
Vista updates:rolleyes::eek:, antivirus updates, anti-spyware updates, Steam updates, HP Updates, Playing games online, Game updates and Patches x a plenty, Software updates, Hardware driver updates (Vista she is still beta wit some shyte), Streaming you-tube vids, browsing and big e-mails, VPN (work purposes), Watching the odd mythbusters episode online if I missed it, DSTV interactive, Freeware downloads.....phew...what have I missed that takes some Gigs?

So far I'm a good Internet user :p

Cool, assuming its all legal - is it necessary?
Now that question does fall far outside of whats being debated here but I feel it deserves mentioning as it reveals the different mindsets of the two sides.

I totally agree that bandwidth should be unshaped and cheap, available to all and fast.
No argument there but its not the case right here right now, I think those who are defending Telkom (ugh ...spit ...ptooey ...yuck!) are trying to say that responsible use is necessary given the circumstances.

...Arguable.
Indisputably the case?
...Certainly.
Trying to bait someone with sarcasm then suddenly switching to a rational tone.

And to think that somewhere in this world is a 70+ year old lady with an Internet connection that could chow that 30Gig in less than a minute :p

Anyone remember her? Think her name was Sigbritt or something.

I see. It seems there is much upon which we agree after all :)

You ask if everything that is legal is necessary- well no it isn't but it still should be available to use if you want to. Otherwise why have it there in the first place?

Hehe, 200GB is not that much. It costs a lot in HDD's or DVDs to actually store the data, but I would quite happily use all of that in a month if it were local.If it were international...wow, then it would be supereasy :)

I have way too many porn dvd's (i'm not scared too admit it) but I never actually watch it, I share it with friends who do.

I use it as swopping material, trust me, I hear this alot "i have this tv series, i have this pc game" but I never hear "i have this xxx dvd"

I've heard someone say, there is not that much porn avail online.

THAT OKE HAS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CLUE!!!!!!!!!!
