Anyone here have an eee pc?

That is much more like it. How much did that set you back though?

I got it on a Vodacom 3G bundle for 36 months. Before everyone cries 'contract', I was going to get extra data anyway and I use all allocated data and have no *massive* issue with 3G ;)

It's R390.00pm or something for 500MB and the netbook (R7999.00 cash).

That has the embedded 7.2/1.4 3G?

They had 3 models available (not sure model each was) :

Acer One (Linpus) 1.6, 512RAM, 8GB SDD = 2,99900 (36 x R270.00pm plus 3G modem)
Acer One (XP) 1.6, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD = 5,499.00 (not sure on contract)
Acer One (XP) 1.6, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD with embedded 3G = 7,999.00 (36 x R390.00)

Are you a chick? Don't get me wrong, it's just that the small keyboard is geared towards someone with smaller fingers - which women typically have.

By that logic, all cellphone and pda users are suppose to be female?

Oh nice!
I'm looking at getting one of these.
Where did you get the contract from?

Incredible Connection ... the Vodacom counter. I'm sure it was (hopefully is ...) running at all Vodacom outlets.

Awesome!
I need to go check it out. Do you know what colours they offer?
I've looking for a decent laptop/contract deal for a while now but it's near impossible to find them online - seems they prefer to print these instead

Is yours embedded or does it come with a USB modem...?

Can anyone comment on using the EEEPC woth an external monitor and keyboard/mouse?

My wife's laptop fried and we just don't have the cash to replace it with even an entry level one at the moment. At around 2k for the EEE PC 700 with linux I could hook it up to her existing monitor and kb/mouse at home and throw in one of the SD cards we have lying around, and when she's got presentations and stuff she can take it with her to hook up to projectors. She'll only use it for working on office documents and browsing the web.

Has anyone tried using it like this?

I've used it like this and it works fine. The resolution on the external monitor isn't perfect but it's perfectly usable.

Thanks simongie. Did you try upgrading the memory? I saw in hj2k's post that it isn't upgradeable, but in a video review I watched it was mentioned there's a panel at the bottom that does allow upgrading.

My 701 got a panel on the back that allows for the upgrading of the RAM. Still need to do that sometime. Also had no problems whatsoever with using my 19" LCD WS + USB Keyboard&mouse - don't know what you mean with "not perfect" simongie?

Best price for the 700 linux one at the moment seems to be Kalahari.net @ R1900 with free delivery.

Firstly, to answer your question ... I used my EEE 701CW with a keyboard and mouse and 17" LCD ... worked wonders, and substituted great until I got PC's running on a server.

Secondly, if you are interested ... I am looking to sell mine, I have no more use for it. I got it in Dec. It has been upgraded to 2GB ram and has 16GB SD in it + 4GB already built in. I still have the original box. If you are interested, PM me with what you are willing to offer.

Regards

Itai

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah I saw the deal Id13, that' what I was considering going for though we'll be going to check this weekend if we can get one on my wife's vodacom contract (she's due for an upgrade).

@eitai2001 if things don't work out with the upgrade this weekend I'll PM you with an offer. Is it still running the default OS?
