Anyone using www.playon.tv?

I'm interested in this whole setup as well. Currently running Plex, Sickbeard, couchpotato, sabnzbd and the occasional rtorrent on my home server linux box. I was just curious if the playon server is only windows? I might have an old laptop I could convert to a windows playon server though...

Ye - edited my post yesterday dude.

It is stock standard .mp4.

It prefixes the movie/tv show with a splash screen showing your name and a PlayLater blurb. Only for 2 or 3 seconds. Then rest carries on as normal. It even records adverts :)
 
To obtain some channel shows and full episodes do you need to be running through a VPN? Just wondering cause lots of shows only have clips and no full episodes.

Which channels have full episodes and seem the best to you?

I am using UnoTelly and seem to be getting quite a lot of shows.
I have noticed there are holes here and there on some of the channels. It will say a full season is available and when you go into it, there are episodes missing.

I have mainly watched History and Discovery through PlayOn and am happy with the amount of content there. But again - a few holes. Nothing major though.

Last night I did not fiddle much as I got Hulu+ working on the Roku 3 so just sat watching stuff.

I will probably stick to the big brand channels. HBO Go is one I really want to get working well.
Amazon Prime another goodie. It appears to be called Amazon VOD as a channel though. Set it up yesterday and will fiddle with it tonight.
 
I definitely think UnoTelly is a necessity then. If I look at Discovery under full episodes all I see are All the Presidents Men, Pot Cops, Property Wars and Texas Car Wars. Can you confirm that yours shows more?

Same shows here with UnoTelly (DNS only) for me. Not much content on the other channels either. Maybe we're missing something?

You pay for Unotelly. Then for Hulu+ or Netflix and use Playon to watch them all. How do you guys pay for all these? I see there is a virtual credit card thing you can setup with paypal, but I dont trust these things.
 
Paypal is the easiest method. Just wondering if PlayOn is worth the money. Keeping an eye on what Mike has to say about it.

Aren't these items all freely available online? Just packaged easier for us to find?

Yes I pay for Unotelly, Hulu and Netflix (I started off on their free trials using my Credit card). I didn't use Paypal.
Credit card is easy and simple.

i find that my plain credit card works easy. I don't need a paypal account etc. So to me CC was without a doubt the easier method.

Playon and Playlater (Once-off payment of $59.99) allows you to run a Play server which other devices access and stream content through (IOS, Android, Xbox, PS3, etc). Playlater allows you to record (download) shows which is great.

I just used a US Zip code as adress when signing up for hulu and Netflix. I got the Zip code from this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...u-in-SA-This-works-without-using-proxy-or-VPN

I am trying to remeber but if I recall correctly Unotelly and Playon doesn't need US region adress when signing up. Netflix and Hulu require US adress and Zip code (the info will be asked when you add the CC details).

Read through a bit of the above thread for more info or feel free to ask more questions here as I am sure they will be answered.

I see Mike has it working but I had a few issues with the free version I used, I might try it again though.

Just as a note I looked on their forums and they don't support services like Unotelly at all, if you get it working then great but they are a US based company providing a service to US viewers. Trying to get it working on the other side if the world with a DNS service is your own issue.

Waiting for Mike's feedback wrt Discovery channel content and other channel content. History channel has got a lot of content which is great. Disney appears to lack a lot of content in the junior section. Still not sure if this is due to not using UnoTelly. Playlater is definitely an attractive option.



Is there any good live news feeds BBC News/CNN International? Are there any active live streams?

I haven't had any issues with Playon using Unotelly. Unotelly helps you access Netflix and Hulu as I understand it. Playon will work without Unotelly but watching Netflix and Hulu probably won't work without Unotelly.

I actually went through Discovery, History, Animal Planet, Bio etc. briefly and I found that some channels lack some content. I am sure if you signed up with Hulu / Netflix a lot more content is available through them (Discovery shows etc).

I have only touched the surface of the free channels. THere may quite possibly be a few channels with good content but I haven't explored it too much as I am quite happy using Netflix / Hulu at the moment.

With regards to Live news there are a few like Al jazeera, BBC and one or 2 others. I did try Al Jazeera which seemed to work (active live stream) very well. I cannot comment on the BBC live news.
