Hi all,

Anyone close to Milnerton with a ossiliscope that wants to do a house call for a couple of $$ or a bottle of brandy or something?

Upgraded my rusted 60cm dish with a new one, and the allignment or something isn't 100%.

When scanning for the channels after powering on the decoder, it takes incredibly long to scan (picks up some channels, but not all of them), and as soon as the scaning part has finished, the decoder just goes to the black screen scaning for frequencies and stating it lost it's connection.

Either the NLB went, or the alignment is out...

Ok - working, 85% signal quality, but the alignment isn't 100% I'm sure of it...

So a non-urgent house call would be appreciated ;)

argh man - you know what I mean... Spectrum analyser or what ever it's called :P

Yeah, one of those might work. I've got one here. In fact, one of the best money can buy... But I charge TOP $$ :)

Sounds like you are semi-sorted anyway.

Just point it dead East and have someone near the TV and just keep adjusting it from there till it reaches in the 90's.

PS, the LNB must be pointed directly in the center of the dish for best results.

Dead East? Bad advice...

Ok, let's get technical.

Satellite Dish Setup

Skew of LNB: -0.1°
Dish | Elevation: 31°

Satellite Info
Name: 68,5E IS7/10
Distance: 38519.28 Km

IS-7 and IS-10, are currently sitting at 68,5° E in orbit.

Completely wrong...

Ok, lets hear your setup.

Well, I advise installers for a living. What do you do and where did you get the dodgy parameters above?

The OP already has some signal, so he is pointing the right way. Only fine tuning and skew adjustment needed.

I did manage to get it working again (after I really started sweating and it started getting dark and all that). Quality hovering in the low to mid 80% and I can definately see an improovement on the decoder for certain things that used to take very long.

Whilst the dish is pointing where it should be pointing, the dual NLB -has- to be turned almost 20 degrees before it works though :wtf: That confuses the living crap out of me.

At this stage my call is just for a friendly house call (non urgent), just to check and perhaps align that last 5mm or so that I may be out :D

LOL! I see I will be very close to you in a month's time when I go down to CT for the Argus cycle race. I will be staying at the Lagoon Beach Apartments, which is roughly 1.2km north of you.

That is not my location. Dropped the marker in general area of Milnerton, which is where the OP said he is based... You will still be about 6km's from where I'm sitting now.
