Apple announces iPhone 4

This is awesome.
For anyone that has had an iPhone, they will know how much better this thing is and that it is indeed worth it.
For all those hating on the iPhone who havent even had an iPhone before and comparing it to other phones - good luck with those comparisons.

Its in a league of its own. So many companies have said it before and have been wrong: "iPhone Killer". What was wrong with this statement/prediction of theirs?
They failed (those who released their so called killer) or will fail (for those who havent).

Anyway, its no point arguing this fact - unless you've owned an iphone - you wont know what the hell I am going on about and will argue the opposite with pointless technical specs and other frivolous comparisons.

Ive been a happy iPhone user since 3G and have never looked back. Its how a phone is supposed to be. It just works.

Happier still with my 3GS and will happily upgrade as soon as iPhone 4 comes out.

I really hope somebody else comes along soon - Apple is just doing too good in my opinion. They are the second most valuable company in the US (surpassed Microsoft the other day) - yet people love them and continue to throw money at their products. How long before the iPhone / iPad becomes the only platforms people start supporting - and Apple decides to ask whatever it wants to and rejects whatever they want to?

I salute them - they are really doing awesome and bringing out great products. I just hope we see something matching / surpassing this soon.

As well as Blackberry, don't forget. ;)

Still - the hardware / screen / innovations are just incredible, and it is really sexy looking.

Not familiar with Blackberry, but thanks for the heads up :).

I'll give you that the screen is nice (pixel density wise - it's certainly not the biggest out there), but the 1GHz A4 meets what HTC released in the HD2 last year (and what a lot of phones have been using since...)- it's not much of an innovation; multitasking has been with us for long(as we have already established); video calling and front facing cameras aren't exactly innovation - not to mention the fact that it's WiFi only for 2010; the camera on the back is an upgrade, sure, but is it better than what we've seen? (On say, the Evo?).

Honestly, the hardware compares with what's out there, but I'd still go for a Nexus One, Desire or Evo if I had the option.

It will be launching in France on June 24 and -- as I recall -- by law any handset available there on a carrier contract also has to be offered for sale unlocked. So there should be a few floating around here shortly after that, though the early adopter premium will be high!

AT&T have already announced that they are finally supporting tethering with the iPhone 4 release.

Oh yeah... I actually remember reading that sometime last week (and laughing at the poor Americans having to pay an extra $20 per month for a feature that should be standard... especially now that they're being capped). Completely slipped my mind until you mentioned it.

Withdrawn, Your Honour. My statement on the silence regarding iChat and >3.5G support still stands though (unless I've got the definition for 3.5G wrong tonight on top of the previous blaps).

Two major (for me) enhancements: Multitasking and Bluetooth 2.1 (ie stereo Bluetooth). Both of which have been missing since Day 1. Still just assisted GPS which will help you not one bit in the Drakensberg. The fanboyz will continue telling you how stupid you are to have any other phone.

I've had many many smartphones but a iPhone is just something completely different. Like SupaMonkey said it just works, and it does not freeze once a day like windowsmobile. The reason why Apple is sometimes "behind" their competitors with features is because they want to make sure that everything WORKS PERFECTLY EVERY time. If you have never owned an iPhone you just wont understand what a superior product this is. Can't wait for the iPhone 4! :)

My first Apple product was an iPod Touch which I bought this month. (It uses the same OS as the iPhone). Once I noticed how easy and intuitively it works, I could not wait to get my hands on an iPhone. The iPhone also has awesome apps to choose from, many of them free, and includes an iPod. I am very excited about the iPhone 4 and will get it without a doubt. It comes at a price, but if you want the best of the best, this is the way to go. Anyone that critizes the Iphone has obviously not worked on an iPhone before.

No iOS4 for the iPod touch:(

EDIT: There is! my apologies! thats great i'll just be sticking with my blackberry and my ipod touch:) best of both worlds:)

My wife has a 3G and I can see the point in upgrading that for the new 4 - I've got the 3GS so with iOS 4.0 I'm not sure I'd be able to justify forking out the cash for this. Oh sure, I want it, but I probably don't need it. Facetime - I had a Samsung i600 years ago with a forward facing camera for videocalls - made one with a friend and then was bored of it. Oh well...

It looks freaking nice BUT will have the same issues I had with my 3G (iTunes, no Bluetooth file transfer, no Java, iStore etc) If they make the iPod Touch next generation look THAT pretty then I will get me one BUT never again a iPhone

+1. What annoys me is the haters who, as soon as Apple releases something, go on about the fanbois. I can almost guarantee that those who slate it haven't actually used it. Anyone used a Samsung Omnia? On paper, it's got everything, but it's by far and away (my boet has one) one of the worst phones out there. Slow, sluggish, prone to failure etc. Sure Windows Mobile is partly to blame... Let's face it, when it comes to usability and design, Apple is streets ahead of anyone else - but you pay for it.

Don't be so sure mate. I had one for 8 months initially I loved it. Great interface, pretty and cool to have but then the nightmare began  poor battery life, constant crashing (jailbreak) without the jailbreak the iPhone is nothing more than a expensive "smartphone" that's not very smart. (Don't get me wrong as a multimedia device its unrivaled BUT as a phone? Nah my Blackberry rocks)
