I've been wanting to say that to him all day. It just wasn't worth my time & effort. It's pretty dam annoying though, always clogging up the Apple posts with stupid Steve Jobs rantings. But yeah, agreed, seriously dude, you need to calm down with the whole Apple hater thing. It's not as if anyone is forcing you to buy their stuff. You've become so obsessed and irrational on this subject that I sometimes find myself looking for your posts just so I can have a good laugh, it's like watching Oprah now and then, entertaining, but such a waste of time. :erm:

Anyway, I think the new iPhone is going to be freaking aaawesome. In fact, it's much better than I expected it would be. I love the new look regardless of those who are concerned that it won't feel that good in your hands. Too bad I don't have the moola.... :p

Guess you guys are right, sorry about that. From now on everyone only say nice things about the iPhone OK? If you want to say something and it is not a compliment or pro-Apple, pro-Steve or pro-iPhone then don't say it.
We need to keep things [-]un[/-]balanced here so only praise and worship or you will be deemed blind to perfection and a mindless hater.

I don't see any blind worship here, we're just discussing a pretty cool and impressive new phone. Quite an expensive one, yes, nobody denies. Locked-down, yes, nobody denies. You're the one who comes in and trash-talks it. Don't like it? Fine, don't get it.

No I don't have an iPhone and I'm sure it is a very fine piece of equipment, just very pricey. And sure, you get what you pay for. I stand corrected on the assisted GPS thing, which is pretty standard for any GPS smartphone so why is it a selling point?. My point stands about multitasking and Bluetooth 2.1. For years I've been wireless in the gym listening to music, able to make and receive calls etc while all the other Apple users have had wires running into their ears. I've appreciated and enjoyed the difference - starting with my mickeymouse little Nokia 3600. Oh yes, my armband costs R60 while I don't see any Apple armband for less than R300. You get what you pay for.

Erm, no - I praise and worship it all the way - there is nothing negative about it - it is flawless in every way (as I am lead to believe).
Before I may have tried to compare it factually based on concrete hardware and software "lacks" it had compared to other device, but thanks to such brilliant disciples such as yourself and Mr Mike and Prof Raptor I have ceased my heresy. I cannot understand why anyone would want to debate the iPhone, oh no sir, this is (as I am lead to believe) a place where we only worship and praise the iPhone. Why do anything else at the risk of being called a hater or an irritation or worst of all, poor (as I am lead to believe)!

Oh My Steve, no we can't have that, blinded by the light has never been this good because its the awesome light of the miracle Retina™ display with its mystical and glorious 3:2 aspect ratio. Am I right guys? Hallelujah!
 
Nobody said it was a flawless device, that would be silly. Why don't you find some examples of people blindly praising the phone as you claim?

You're just coming here to trash it, as usual.

Anyway, the problem with a 16:9 screen is it's too skinny in portrait mode. Which is how you use the phone mostly. Also, how do you maintain compatibility with the old iPhone?
 
Not flawless? Well, they certainly did not take kindly to me pointing out that it has no memory card slot, 5 megapixels is dated, no standard 3G video calls, no FM radio, no Java, no Flash and only SD TV-out whilst it has a near HD display.
Oh My Steve, that was met with an outcry and I was branded an irritation and a cheapskate hater. So I did what they wanted to hear and just blindly praise the iPhone. I mean, this is not suppose to be a logical debate and open discussion (as I am lead to believe), no, it is suppose to be a praise and worship for the iPhone.

Am I right guys? Hallelujah!

I can sort of understand why alot of people smirk at features(or lack of) of the iPhone if they havnt got one. I practically had to beg Vodacom for my 3G 2years ago becuase they said it didnt compare to the Samsung Omnia! ha ha. When apple has not got a feature i believe it is for two reasons: They couldnt not get it done reliably and in fitting with there priorities (i.e flash chews up processing power etc) OR they want to hold that feature out for a new release. This is a business decision and may not impress the consumer all the time but Apple is the best marketing machine in the world, they have their reasons!

All i can tell you is that i would not swop my old 3G for anything less than a new iphone. The interface and touch screen are its biggest advantages over other smartphones. I had plenty of other phones and this is the only one you can call & sms on as quick as a good old fashioned firmware based Nokia or Sony etc with buttons. Alot of people bitch about no freedom with software. Apple do this on purpose so that crappy apps dont crash there OS and hardware. Its like a quality garantee. If you want the freedom then Jailbreak and your on your own. I personally havnt seen the reason to do this as the app store is so big, everything is there.

I wish someone would create a survey thread asking the following:

Have you had an iphone and didnt like
Have you got an iphone and love it?
Do you hate the idea of an iphone and will never try it?
I am tempted but the apple haters are putting me off...

am prepared to bet there are less than 5% of people who have had an iphone and did not like the experience. All the haters are people who read spec sheets and compare the iphone to other smartphones. You cant do this, its about the experience!!!!!!!
 
From what I could gather, there's no way to make Video Calls in the US over 3G networks the way we do - please correct me if I am wrong. With the EVO 4G they implemented it over the 4G network and on the iPhone over WiFi. Remember - the biggest market for the iPhone is still the US and thus it IS a feature they will advertise like crazy - this is like the first time video calling becomes available to customers in an easy to use manner (not dependent on everybody having the same software installed etc. - although you need the same phone).

Also, from what I could see, the quality of the video calls looks very impressive - better than the 3G calls we have here (although it has been years since I last used it - perhaps it got better in the meanwhile).

No memory card - hello, it's Apple!
5 megapixels is dated - actually they have one of the best 5 megapixel cameras on a phone with the new backside-illuminated sensor and large pixel size.
No standard 3G video calls, well, I've never seen anyone use this. Anyway they made a standard, called Facetime, it should bring video calling to the world.
No FM radio - well that's really not a deal-killer, unless you like mediocre music. I'll rather have my 160gb iTunes library on tap thanks.
No Java - nope, it's called Objective C, much better and faster.
No Flash - nope, it's called HTML 5, much better and faster.
SD TV-out, well sure Apple are behind here, but it's a minor feature gap that most people don't mind.

They list features so people don't have to ask. All the manufacturers seem to do it. I noticed that the Nokia N900 even lists a cleaning cloth. How exciting. ;)

Yes - precisely - it is flawless in every way and the best phone ever (as you have lead me to believe) - all hail to the mighty Steve and the glorious iPhone!
It can do everything for everyone and debating its features is senseless because its all about the experience.
If you don't like it you are a hater or cheap or classless (as I am lead to believe).

Personally I would call it many things BUT flawless yet everyone here has lead me to believe that [-]we now have a cure for AIDS[/-] it is perfect and does everything better and faster and what it does not do needs not be done.
