Apple iPhone 16 range unveiled

Me me me. Can’t wait.

I do miss the old days of queuing at 3am to get one lol. But I’m too lazy now I just wait till it can be delivered.

It isn't surprising, it is just sad and a little insane about how good Apple have become at CPU design.
It would be interesting to see if this chip can outperform the chip in my old Android. I don’t any of the iPhones have yet.

But I have faith that this is the year

Those people work at Qualcomm now and it shows. They managed to leapfrog Apple silicon in terms of overall efficiency in a gen1 product.

The question is what is Apple going to come up with after M series core designs. Do they have something good, or are they going to do a AMD bulldozer and miss the mark in design?

So I hear this thing can do 25w charging? Is that true?

What about the laws of physics, heat and battery degradation? That’s always been the excuse of why Apple never implemented
Its mostly due to the Apple batteries being so much smaller. Bigger batteries spread the power to more cells, so they can take more juice more quickly.

Yes, I know it's a shitpost, but so much of it is true. Apple could be so much better, but it's not.

For me lack of physical SIM is a deal breaker. Samsung A and S series have two physical SIMs and S have also eSIM.

But one can get an iPhone with physical SIM (at least one) if one buys the Chinese market version.

Pff... 2021.

I'm pretty sure I could find a Nokia Symbian^2 or Symbian^3 device from like 2010 with a dedicated camera button.

No fancy taptic engine slidey controls, though.

(Before the hate brigade gets the wrong idea: I'm a very happy Apple customer and may even upgrade to an iPhone 16 Pro. Shitposting is just fun.)
I just hope this camera button encourages more people to shoot horizontal video.

A boy can dream, can't he?

That shouldn't be surprising in the slightest though. That's a 7 year old chip, predating Apple Silicon.

I just checked and the M1 Pro gets 3806 in single thread and 21867 in multi-thread with CPU Mark. That's a more interesting comparison imo. The A18 Pro is a good step up from the A17 Pro, so it's incredibly impressive how performant the A-series has become.

My M1 Pro MBP is still stupidly fast and still has amazing battery life, so I also wonder if upgrade cycles aren't getting longer and longer. It could be quite a few more years before I upgrade.

The difference is that nothing needs such high speeds on an iPhone. You can play games, but those are more GPU bound. And it's not like you will be running simulations on your phone.

Never mind that the phone has no active cooling, so running at that top speed it will soon start to throttle while your Macbook Pro has fans which will cool it off.

Which Gen1 Qualcomm chip are you referring to?

I believe you can pause a video while recording … but only in the iPhone 16 because it has a special dedicated ‘pause while record’ hardware?

iPhone is really getting fragmented as to what phone gets what features, and even different chips and zoom levels within the different hardware.

Que? It's available on all iOS 18 devices...
Apple has added a new Camera app feature in the latest iOS 18 beta that gives iPhone users a dedicated option to pause video recordings. The feature, spotted by 9to5Mac, is coming to all iOS 18-supported iPhone models when the OS update is released on September 16th, unlike the wider “Camera Control” tools that are exclusive to the iPhone 16.

Wasn't the apple way to remove the buttons? Might as well add touch ID back as a new button next year :P I had a dedicated button on my Sony Xperia Z1 back in the day.

That said I'm upgrading now predominantly because I need more phone storage (64gb currently) and the battery is showing it's age now (83% health). My only issue is that I'm torn between going for the pro or the normal 16 as I prefer the non stove like look and marginally smaller and lighter form factor of the normal one. Thoughts?

Joke aside, they should add back a fingerprint sensor to use an option if needed, as there are occasions a fingerprint sensor is better than Face ID
