iPhone SE is discontinued

Now that the iPhone 16e has become official, Apple has unceremoniously killed the iPhone SE - in more ways than one. Not only is the SE line officially dead with the 16e's arrival, but the latest iPhone SE, the one launched in 2022 looking like something from 2015, has also been discontinued.

The iPhone SE isn't available to buy anymore, it's been removed from all Apple stores, so if you wanted one for a retro kick, you're unfortunately out of luck, at least if going directly to Apple itself.

You might still have some chances at third-party retailers that could have some units in stock, but those are likely to disappear soon as well. And so you'd better act fast - or, you know, decide against buying a phone with a decade-old design (if not more than that) in 2025. The choice is all yours.

But it makes an iPhone 15 seem way more sensible.

Can likely pick up a 15 Pro and get all the same features and more.

A normal one even if you don’t care for AI.

In my opinion, it should have been an updated SE in the body of a 14, as the expectation was a while back (sure, it was long overdue to do away with the old home button design), instead of a 16 “Lite”.

The price jump from the SE 3 is huge, notwithstanding the base capacity increase to 128Gb.

The 16e will most likely be in the 15k-16k range landed in SA.

Whereas a cheaper “SE 4” would have attracted new buyers to iPhone, the 16e is just gonna steal sales from the 16.

I know for a fact that it’s now gonna be out of budget for some of my family members, so their current SE 3’s are gonna do duty for much longer now, but what they are going to do when it’s upgrade time, remains to be seen. It sure is a pity!

Considering how many devices Apple was selling with their chips they are going to feel that in a big way.
