Apple iPhone 4S arrives

Other than the screen size and the model number what's there to be disappointed about?

Had Apple called it iPhone 5 would there have been as much consternation?

Have public expectations become unreasonable and what role has the media played in boosting these expectations?

Personally I find anything bigger than 3.5" unreasonable to use in one hand or carry in a shirt pocket. At what point do manufacturers say well that's just to big for a mobile smart phone...? 4"? 4.3"?? 5"??? I recall not so long ago when the HTC HD launched and its size was considered vulgar and impractical...

Is this really what people want??

In the US most of the complaints is about the lack of new tech that the opposition is bringing in, Example LTE and NFC. and even with some complaining about LTE only covering 15% of the country that number does include over 50% of the population.

Granted in SA we dont have LTE either but I know all our SP are running trails so we can expect them to roll out pretty soon.

I dont know about NFC that much, but I guess if the tech was available on a device like say the iPhone more people like say the Gautrain would be willing to push for it.

True, screen size might be a very personal matter, I can from my side say its because of the 4.3" screen that I can not stand using my iPhone 4 anymore, well its more than just the screen size but personally I just became to accustom to the larger screen to both sw-t/ype on.

I guess that was why the rumors of 2 models started one with old 3.5" and another at 4", call it more of the people calling for help than a rumor.

Edit: At least we know the lack of LTE now is based on the size constraint of the iphone4s model, thanx to an article earlier in the thread.

I went less bling and less money out of my pocket per month and took a Nokia E5. I know myself, I lose interest in all the bell and whistles after a month and use a mobile to phone/sms, check email and reply to only the most urgent of urgent, and open the occasional website.

What I am mostly opposed is the price at which these devices come, it's absolutely insane. It is also very questionable when a mobile phone becomes a fashion statement.

I agree. Listening to these Apple FagBois reminds me of Crack Addicts. :wtf:

Also makes a bit of a mockery of Al Gore :

If you need an ''s'' @ the end of your old iphone go ahead and cue for it, lol Nokia N9 is indeed something out of this world.

A more realistic assessment of the 4S in my opinion. Beyond the spec whore fringe, the vast majority of smartphone users basically want a stylish, snappy, compact, easy-to-use mobile communication/media device with a rich, hassle-free apps/content ecosystem, that just works.

BTW he left out the 'world phone' bit. Verizon (CDMA) is the largest US mobile network, and I can image the 4S would be the obvious choice for any frequent travellers to the rest of the (GSM) world.

I guess the iPhone model number just changed from planed Siri ref.

iPhone 4 S(iri)

Just became

iPhone for Steve.

And with that they will now sell millions more, even if its just for monumental value.
