He created Tumblr, Instapaper, The Magazine, and is one of the more respected people in the software and startup industry. What are *your* great achievements that you feel entitled to belittle him?

Truth be told after reading some of his article its clear to see that he is a delusional fanboy trying to sound intelligent about it.

My achievements may not be tech related(besides being the editor of a tech mag for a while) but yes I have many in my own life,and in other fields.

But thats not the point just because you have achievements does not mean your are entitled to get away with stupidity and fanboyism.

JStrike the truth is you'll never change,I remember the nokia fanboys of old even when sybian was a dead horse they still kept on flogging it.I'm not saying Apple is dying but the reality is ios itself needs some freshening up or they will fall into the same rut nokia fell into of "keep on doing what you've always been doing."

Innovation is doing things different from what you yourself have been doing for the last few years and thats what led to Apple rise in the first place,they should not forget that.

BTW isn’t Samsung getting a bit too mainstream and popular for you Linux geek anti-establishment types...you now probably have the same phone as your hairdresser...and doctor's receptionist...and your mother. :)

They had to go full circle now; supporting Microsoft and Rim and Nokia. And the wheel turns. Hopefully someday Android can get back to hipster status.

I'm pro Android, and I like my iPad.

I gotta say, it is frustrating to see like old lady's and other non-techie type people stereotypes walking around with S3's, haphazardly tapping the screen. It's like a frail grandma pulling out a Desert Eagle... I doubt those people know how to use the power that is Android efficiently.

So yeah the 'hipster' status (I mean, thinking I am part of an exclusive elite that knows better and that's why I am using an Android type feeling) is pretty much gone. 75% of new smartphone sales worldwide are Android...

On the other hand, it also helps to prove that Android is also just as, or damn near, easy to use as Apple. So that Apple fanboy argument is ever less apparently valid.

I wish Apple would do something truly amazing to its iPhone lineup...I feel uncomfortable with the overly dominant position of Android (though I fiercely prefer it)

They did that by building boatloads of cheap shoddy phones (with the occasional exceptionally good model like the Galaxy models and some of the HTCs). Even in the UK we saw thousands of horrible handsets on sale (some still are) with Android 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 like the ZTE models under other names, T-Mobile Pulse, Vodafone Smart, LG Optimus, San Francisco etc. all sold between £25 and £75 on PAYG.

Apples cheapest phone is £329 so volume has always favoured Android, but I think we might see a big threat to Android with the Windows Phones taking their share, Nokia have already started selling some excellent phones, WP8 is arguably better than Android and as the cheaper models start hitting the shelves it's going to take market share from the existing budget handsets (which are mostly Android now).

I really think Nokia have the ability to produce cheaper handsets that are built better than the equivalent Android phones and WP8 is more user friendly, Android is a bit of a nightmare for the casual user, current phones can be on 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0, 4.1 or 4.2 all with differences to their UI, the tile system on WP means everything the casual user needs is on the home screen, calls, texts, email, Facebook etc without the need for widgets or shortcuts.

If there is a OS in danger of a decline in the next 2-3 years, it's more likely to be Android than iOS.

Mike, don't even bother with these iPleps. While we enjoy true power and freedom in awesome products like the Note 2 they are stuck with their "premium" (because Apple says so) phones running an OS that can't even bring up a menu when you press an open area on the screen, and where an on-device file management system is denied you by Nanny Apple who "protects you from evil for you own good" (ie. protect iDiots from breaking their toys and then come crying to Nanny for help ("Nanny is busy printing money dear, don't bother me again.")).
