Apple iPhone 5 unveiled

The new iPhone would have been fantastic except for the bigger size.

Why the mysterious "iPhone Nano" is still the desire of many. Some people want a smaller phone even if it means reduced functionality.

I would not be surprised if Apple were to bring out an iPod Nano with phone capability in the next two years.

Just had a client phone me asking me if I have stock of the Iphone 5. Took all my might not to hiss at her and put the phone down in her ear! URG!

That's completely mistaken. There is just still a market for a dedicated MP3 player. I'm as surprised as anyone really but I can understand it. If I was cash flush I'd also get a standalone MP3 for the gym as well.

Well they will have to change the look then cause right now the iPod Touch + Nano look a hell of a lot like the Lumia.

For now they can use the excuse that the one is a phone and the other is a media device :)

Cerebus, go read my comments I made in the iPod thread about battery life ... I say exactly what you are ... there will always be a place for MP3 players. That a small phone is possible for Apple to manufacture using current tech is all I'm trying to show here.

+1 on that...

Thing is, everyone else just drops these businesses from their portfolio when they start chasing after the next thing. It was assumed that MP3 players would be assimilated fully, and as for the iPod Touch, that was only meant to be useful until iPhones became affordable at a lower level. But they wouldn't continue to iterate on them if they had stopped selling. It's just proving the long tail theory. Also was quite impressed to hear that 90% of iOS apps get downloaded once a month. That's a HUGE software market.

I bought a little Sandisk SANSA for the car for next to nothing - also takes a 32GB SD card for a total of 36GB !!! Cheap but it is actually great.

Now WTF do I do with the iPod Touch 4th Gen 32GB ? Pretty useless device.

+1 I've had my SANZA Fuze for years. It's fantastic. It's revolutionary :p

I wouldn't say useless- but as a small media device, it is great. If a non-Apple version of similar quality existed, it would be a hit.
