The S3 benchmarked with quad instead of dual cores is faster than the iPhone 5.

On Geekbench perhaps...on CPU constrained tests where apples-for-apples cross-OS benchmarks aren't very trustworthy (see anand's comment to that effect). Otherwise it's these guys vs Anandtech and I'm sorry...nobody ever accused anand of shoddy testing methodologies.

Yes, you do, or you wouldn't mention it and then winky winky like we-all-know-who-the-REAL-fanboys-are kind of thing hey.

Point being, it's faster, which you firstly didn't believe, and then when it was demonstrated, found ways to convince yourself that it doesn't matter. So, whatever. It's a lot faster than I ever expected it to be, and it's at least one solid reason that someone could buy it with confidence that they're getting the best technology that exists at the present moment.

But it compares equally well against the brand new Optimus G.

Hysteria? If you hadn't noticed the vast majority of people on the forum voted AGAINST iPhone5 as the best phone of all time. This is not an Apple hysteric forum and we don't need you to balance anything, kthxbai.

I actually did sand my first test sim down a bit, but when I actually put it into the sim tray (the sim tray is virtually identical to the one on the 4 just scaled down) I noticed there was a fair gap when it slid in. I cut another sim down and tried it without sanding and it went in perfectly.

I think this 0.1mm story was a but overblown and perhaps encouraged by some networks (my network wanted GBP10 to supply a nano sim) just for the profit factor.

Thanks thats great news,didn't really fancy sanding down the sim too much.Hopefully I can get me an iphone 5 in ten days time if my friend can get hold of an unlocked gsm one in the states before he comes back so will just cut up my cell c micro sim i guess.Getting excited now I hope I don't get let down,could really live with a slimmer phone and bigger screen until I make up my mind about windows 8 (will depend on if it gets opera otherwise i'm sticking to ios)

Buddy these isheep types are on another level take it from me as an iphone fan you cant talk sense to these okes they are seriously deluded,remember a short while ago they were like its not about technical specs blah blah blah now they quoting benchmarks and comparing processors lol they are a weird breed and those pro-mac sites just push them deeper feeding them lotsa kool-aid!

I love my iphone, but these okes have made Apple their religion and they cant criticize Apple at all which is shocking as its just a device after all.

And sand-man I'm not interested in voiding my warranty so by and far ios isn't customizable so stop already.On any android phone you don't loose your warranty with customizations.For me I don't mind since I hardly customize my phones anyway.

I like my iphone because it feels great in hand and looks great too.The restrictions do irritate me at times though.

Point is you have to be willing to sacrifice an important thing like warranty to customize.Making customizing on ios a no go for most people,on android you don't have to make such decisions.

Customising iOS devices risks warranties. Then again, simply getting the latest update of Android devices risks warranties. I can get iOS6 on my iPad2 and as far back as 3GS, with zero compatibility issues. That's the tradeoff you make, and frankly, since stock Gingerbread Touchwiz on the SGS is pretty wretched, I'd happily take some long term OS support over easy customisation.

When a new phone is launched they're stuck on an old OS because they're not upgradable?

Apple is doing the same - even if your iPhone 3GS takes iOS 6, it's still lagging in features behind 4S and 5. I'm running iOS 6 on my iPad 2 and my friend iOS 6 on her iPad 3 - but they're not comparable.

THey should rather have said 'sorry - can't do it' than giving me a watered down version of an OS that I think is the latest and greatest

Apple has reportedly responded to at least one complaint about the scratches and chips being discovered on the iPhone 5.

"Any aluminum product may scratch or chip with use, exposing its natural silver color," Apple Senior Marketing VP Phil Schiller said in an e-mail, according to 9to5Mac. "That is normal."

Schiller apparently made the comment in an e-mail sent in response to iPhone 5 user "Alex." E-mailing Schiller that he loves his new iPhone, Alex asked about the scuffs, scratches, and marks appearing around the band and wondered if Apple had plans to fix the problem. Schiller's e-mail was received and its headers reportedly verified by 9to5Mac to authenticate the Apple VP as the source.

Soon after the iPhone 5 went on sale last Friday, users started filling up discussion forums and social networks with reports of scratches and nicks on their brand-new phones. People say they've noticed the defects around the aluminum band surrounding the phone, with the issue more visible on the black version of the new iPhone.

Tests of the iPhone 5 have shown that the new aluminum surface of the back and the edge around the band are softer and more vulnerable to scratching than was the glass surface used in previous models. So Schiller's remark seems accurate, though it's certainly not welcome news to new iPhone owners.

The phones themselves are frequently perfectly upgradable. I'm running Android 4.1 with absolutely no problems on my SGS. They just couldn't be arsed.
