Apple just sucks - full stop.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and ideas, will work out my plan of action.
 
Tell her to get a friend that doesnt mind helping her. Sies you value your friendship with iTunes
 
Of all things Apple, iTunes is the worst.

Messes up my music collection constantly and doesn't remember tags. I started from scratch a week back and imported everything into my library ... And I see the 'compilation' tag that took me weeks to do doesn't follow through and I need to redo it.

Of all media manager I've ever had, I've spent the most time on importing libraries and fixing iTunes than anything else. When I first got it I assumed it was smart and chose it to manage my music for me .... Bad idea! Took me months to fix it again

Nah Bwana ... Everything is tagged perfect. Nothing wrong with my collection now.

But it seems the compilation tag isn't a standard mp3 tag and part of iTunes for managing it ... Nothing but iTunes read a it. Importing into iTunes from scratch means nothing has the non existent tag

iTunes does remember tags. I've restored my library more times than I can count after reformats and never had an issue. Just make sure your library is keeping itself organised and backup the .xml file. When needed, force iTunes to repair itself by deleting everything in the iTunes folder except the backup xml. Playlists, ratings etc. should all be restored.
 
The standard tags, yes ... Is compilation standard though?
 
If it's an old ipod there are plenty of free apps to just copy music over without iTunes.

Oh BTW... Android and windows just sucks. ;)

Yes but it shouldn't be necessary. The latest version of iTunes syncs just fine with my old ipod.

How is this now a problem with Android, as you can sync your media to Android devices using iTunes as well if you like it so much?
 
Apple hardware is great, but the windows version iTunes is a PoS.

e.g. Import a large folder: It starts blasting the music while doing this & randomly skipping between (portions?!?) of tracks. So I move to stop the music....nope the import window prevents clicking on the main window - so no stopping or reducing volume. Fine whatever, reduce windows volume then. Couple of minutes later the problem fixed itself when the iTunes streaming server crashed with a message about not accepting more connections. :rolleyes:

Also, the Nike+ thing incorporated into iTunes works perhaps 5% of the time.

Apple never cared about iTunes on windows... from day one (the first port) all mac users who thought they could use it on PC were disappointed with it.

Yea, why would they - after all, your using something they didn't [-]take ownership of your soul[/-] sell to you makes you a lost sale that could perhaps be motivated into converting by making the itunes experience as crap as possible ..trolling with software if you will. And it's not like that's the only way they troll with it: for a [-]demon from the foulest pits of hell[/-] company as anal as it is about look & feel and the UI in their own OS, they really do flout their disregard for anything like the same in the 'doze world.

Steve Jobs didn't want to ... but lucky his employees convinced him.

That decision alone would probably mean the iPod would never have taken off and the world would lack the current 'i' devices
 
Erm... if she does not have a pc with itunes... HTF did she get music onto the iPod in the first place?

Oh, and if you really couldn't be bothered to help her, send her to an iStore.
