Apple not convinced by NFC yet

Yes, we have dozens of phones for testing. Some have NFC.
The reason I wouldn't want it, is that it has been around for 8 years (And about 20 years since first invention), and has massively failed to get traction by the industry.
Bluetooth 4.0 offers the same functionality, but actually has industry support.
So almost every phone has a Bluetooth chip in in, and in the future will have Bluetooth 4.0. Why would I want another chip in my phone when the functionality will be there via 4.0? (Yes, it is tiny, but every millimeter counts)

You need to forget about Bluetooth and focus on the topic on NFC. Then you need to go and read up on NFC applications and what you can do with it outside of the banking context. Then you need to go and read up on who is backing NFC and at what stage of implementation they are. Major financial institutions are driving this technology, and the trials are almost done. The Olympic village was also used to trial NFC with great success. After all this reading I am sure you will realize that your bias opinion on NFC is invalid. My phone has BT4, and I have yet to find something to use it for. All communication happen via Wi-Fi or Wi-fi Direct.

I said Apple fanboys should not comment, not sure if you are one... huge dif between Apple fanboy and Apple user...

Reason I said they should not comment is because if you are a Apple fanboy then you would have never used NFC and no matter what anyone says a fanboy will keep on hatin....
How can one diss/write crap about something that they never used before????

You tell me where I said Bluetooth 4 will loose out and where I said I know the contactless payment industry...
I re-read my post and I sure do not mention anything about that...
All I said is I can't wait for NFC payments, after all, there were plenty articles in the past looking into using NFC as a way of paying for whatever... I don't really care if they do it over bluetooth or nfc, they must just do it already!

It's amazing because you touch a tag and your phone will do whatever the tag was setup to do, so no fiddling with your phone, for me it saves time, and I think it's a great feature to have, but I guess iphone users/fanboys will not know anything about it... as no iphone has NFC...

I accept your distinction between Fanboys and Apple users just as I accept the distinction between Fandroids/iHaters and Android users.

Having said that trying to keep the few Fanboys off this thread when generally MyBB is stacked with Fandroids... really.

You say Apple users would not have encountered NFC. Well they have on their Gautrain card.
They are capable of debating the future of NFC w/o having it on their phones.
And before you call me one, I have been banging on about balanced view that all the premium phones and ecosystems are good and have their advantages and disadvantages

But again I ask the question - For what purpose do you use NFC ON your phone regularly? Not the future because it may be some time off. Now.

I am no longer a student and I havent seen someone use NFC with their phone yet (in SA).
I dont live in my moms basement. I get around, I do things. Sure I dont use public transport (except for Gautrain)

Or are you arguing for its uses well into the future?
